Marie Antoinette Pelosi Busted Big Time for Planned Ritzy Indoor Dinner, What Happened Next Was Just Desserts

As we’ve previously reported, Democratic governors in California, New York, Virginia, North Carolina and other states are clamping down on the holiday excitement many Americans feel this time of the year by way of mandating indoor gatherings including those held at private residences be limited to no more than 10 people in a supposed effort to slow the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus.

Republicans have pushed back hard against such draconian and unconstitutional decrees, with some openly declaring their Thanksgiving plans in defiance of the “rules” put in place, rules that history has shown us that more often than not will not be observed by the same elite leftists making them or calling for them.

But while Democrats have publicly all but declared that Thanksgiving should be canceled, privately they’re singing much different tunes on private soirées – provided they’re the ones who get to attend/host them. For example, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) was caught last week rubbing elbows (and we hope that’s all he was rubbing) at the very type of intimate get-togethers that he blames for a spike in virus cases in his state.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is another who very recently was caught not practicing what she demands the common folk do. And the fierce backlash to it came from both the left and right, for different reasons.

It all started not long after NBC News correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell posted a photo Friday afternoon of the indoor dining hall where Pelosi was set to host a rather ritzy gathering of incoming Democratic House members. Caldwell said Pelosi told her that it would be safe. “It’s very spaced,” Pelosi claimed:

House Dem and GOP leaders are holding respective dinners for new members.

The tweet set off a firestorm of criticism against Pelosi from Republicans and Democrats alike. Republicans were, of course, calling her out over her double standards in doing privately what she has publicly urged the American people not to do for months. Democrats slammed her for making them look like the hypocrites they are.

Some journalists weighed in as well, barely able to contain their disgust:

Imagine reading this as a business owner closed down for the last 8 months. Special rules for our elites, it would seem. https://t.co/qLSamE7lxg

— Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) November 13, 2020

This should be canceled. Just so irresponsible and hypocritical. Why people hate Washington, Exhibit A: https://t.co/cJ80spnauZ

How can the Speaker call COVID a “red alert” and an “emergency of the highest magnitude” in the morning and then host a dinner like this? Does anyone trust the ventilation system of a 200 year old building? https://t.co/x4M3k0d9rN

Pelosi’s black-tie/glittery dress party was especially egregious when you consider 1) she’s still stalling the COVID relief bill as millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet, and 2) the email she’d sent out to supporters in her Congressional district not long before the event was scheduled to take place:

As she convenes an indoor dinner for new House members, Nancy Pelosi just sent an email to her constituents that says, "We must still work to crush the virus with the … mask wearing and social distancing that are essential to preventing tens of thousands of needless deaths." pic.twitter.com/OFlnNftVbP

— Hunter Walker (@hunterw) November 13, 2020

Though her deputy chief of staff tried valiantly to defend Pelosi’s actions, eventually the announcement came that the gala event had been canceled:

Members-elect are now picking up their boxed meals and departing the Capitol. There is no group dinner. Members-elect are in DC already for orientation. https://t.co/g5XNnA3ky0

— Drew Hammill (@Drew_Hammill) November 14, 2020

The memes just wrote themselves:

“Greetings, fellow citizens of modest means” pic.twitter.com/E3zOuHb93M

— Barstool News Network (@BarstoolNewsN) November 13, 2020

As Barstool alluded to, Pelosi’s planned swanky dinner party was very reminiscent of her infamous April interview with “Late Late Show” host James Corden, which also happened to take place at a time there was another stalemate over a COVID relief bill. Pelosi stood in her kitchen, perfectly coiffed and stylishly dressed in front of two large and no doubt very expensive stainless steel refrigerators while gushing to Corden about her freezer full of premium ice cream treats that she had set up for auto-delivery:

We all have found our ways to keep our spirits up during these trying times. Mine just happens to fill up my freezer. #LateLateShow pic.twitter.com/dqA32d5lU1

— Nancy Pelosi (@SpeakerPelosi) April 14, 2020

Ironically, progressives are blaming tone-deaf incidents like that one for the shellacking House Democrats took in last week’s election:

Last night’s canceled fancy evening dinner also reminded people of how Pelosi was caught maskless during a September visit to a shuttered salon in San Francisco to get a fancy haircut and highlights at a time when such luxuries were not allowed. Pelosi tried to claim the whole affair was a “set up,” but the bad publicity she received from it further eroded what little bit of credibility she thought she might have had left when it came to urging people to make what she and other Democrats have described as the necessary sacrifices to ensure public safety during the pandemic.

I’m not ashamed to admit that a tidal wave of schadenfreude washed all over me when I read about the planned glitzy event and the mountain of pushback she received from political friends and foes alike. There aren’t many public figures anywhere in this country who I can think of as more deserving of such condemnations than Pelosi.

I guess one might say that in this case, Speaker Pelosi got her, ahem, just desserts.

Once again Pelosi reveals her attitude that the rules are just for the little people.

NBC News' Leigh Ann Caldwell posted a photo of the tax-paid ritzy windowless dining hall which Pelosi
set-up to host incoming Democratic House members (who Pelosi desperately needs to reelect her as Speaker).

Caldwell (@LACaldwellDC) Nov 13, 2020 @SpeakerPelosi told me it’s safe. “It’s very spaced, w/ enhanced ventilation and the Capitol physician signed off. pic.twitter.com/ZXjf72lnrP

Caldwell's tweet set off a bi-partisan firestorm of criticism against Pelosi...... Republicans calling out Pelosi over her double standards in doing privately what she has publicly urged the American people not to do for months. Democrats slammed her for making them look like the hypocrites.......that they are.
