Skip to comments.Dear "Freepers": Some Thoughts on Hope, Courage and America
Posted on 11/10/2020 9:54:15 AM PST by Lenora Thompson
No new article from me today. I'm taking the day off but I wanted to write something just for you.
Y'know, a lot of you have messaged me privately to express appreciation for my articles and I love you for it. It's my pleasure to write for you. Writing is so enthralling, I'd rather write than eat. True!
Maybe you message me privately because of the dynamic on this site. Other sites have trolls...easily ignored. This site is different. There's a spirit of toxicity that keeps the good people quiet. A very few will speak up or even stick up for a writer who is bullied, but they know there'll be Hell to pay for it. It baffles me but que sera sera.
Now, some of you find the patriotism in my writing sugary. Saccharin.
I write America as the ideal our Founding Fathers imagined and Frank Capra so brilliantly worked into his movies. Sure, we never quite attain that level of greatness, but we're always trying or we should be. Trump always does.
The patriots have been so bowed, so discouraged for so long, when true HOPE is offered, some are afraid to grasp it, afraid to be guilty of believing in a "conspiracy theory."
Good sometimes does, eventually, triumph as it will in the re-election of President Donald J. Trump. Re-climbing on the MAGA bandwagon after speedily abandoning it would be some pretty weak tea.
You can dismiss me as some kind of Pollyanna with her head in the clouds who's had a perfect life...but you'd be so wrong.
Just nine years ago, I escaped a cult-like family that held me again my will until the age of 31. They used any reason, including my father's cancer, to hold me against my will and make me pay them for the privilege. Their domination in the name of God was so severe, the brainwashing so complete that I'd nearly given up my will to live. The Stockholm Syndrome was severe. That's why the plight of the Turpin children meant so much to me.
Even though they did so much bad in the name of God, I never lost my faith in Him. Thanks to C. S. Lewis, I realized they represented God badly. He was not to blame. He is Good and Great and Loving. He's proven to me over and over that He always prayers, even the small ones, if it's in our best interests.
The same goes for America. Just because people run the government badly, America is not to blame. People let her done. She never, ever lets us down. She is always that Ideal. Our failure to make it reality is our fault, not hers!
Finally, just nine short years ago, my abusers gave up. I tasted freedom for the first time and it was intoxicating. I fell in love with Freedom!
Then I fell in love with a man, Michael Thompson, who suffers from a terminal lung disease and was already 2 years past his die-by-date. I married him anyways.
Since then, our lives have been one constant, endless merry-go-round of tragedy, discouragement, emergencies, health problems, surgeries, family problems, death threats, threats of lawsuits and poverty.
Oh, I'm not complaining. Not at all. Just balancing out the whole Pollyanna thing with the other side of the story. I actually believe we have a very nice life indeed.
My Michael has lost everything in his life, including his health, and still has a big smile on his face. I wish you could meet him. He lives with horrific chronic pain but is a happy guy, always moving forward, always brimming over with ideas, always learning, always hobbying, always hopeful, always looking forward to the future. He's the Research Department of our little family and "feeds" me the headlines and info that informs my writing on AMERICA: The Blog as well as my aggregator News page.
I write for my supper because I'm also his caregiver. I can't leave him alone to go out to an office. I won't leave him to choke to death and drown in his own lung protein on the floor, unable to cry for help, reach the phone or his oxygen. Worst case scenario. That's why I'm so grateful to all of you Freepers who've tangibly encouraged us. Thank you so much!
We need to be idealistic. We need to be hopeful. We need to believe that good has and will triumph, even if we're called "Conspiracy Theorists." We need to stand up against the bullies and be loud and proud in every forum, cyber and real.
Is this facebook
Narcissist who writes about narcissism.
Emotionally damaged people seem to have a need to write and expose themselves and their sordid past histories to the world.
Lenora here reminds me of that Mrs. Warrior who used to post four or five times a week about her past.
BE AFRAID. BE VERY AFRAID!
Know what scares me more than the Democrat’s effort to steal ANOTHER in a long string of elections?
That around 40%+ of those we encounter each day are NOT OFFENDED AND ANGRY ABOUT IT and MOST ACTUALLY APPLAUD THEIR CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR!
The soul of a nation lies in the hearts of the citizens.
Even if this CRIME is resolved in Trump’s favor (and it WILL BE!), FOLKS, WE’RE STILL IN BIG TROUBLE (AS IN CIVIL WAR INITIATED BY THE SAME ANTIFA/BLM MORONS WHO BURN, BEAT & KILL)!
HITLER’S BROWN SHIRTS COME TO MIND and I wonder if concern for their PERSONAL SAFETY is what’s keeping some folks from PUBLICLY resisting the IN-YOUR-FACE CRIMINALITY OF THE LEFT?
I’m very disturbed by so-called “Americans” being tickety-boo with the fraud as long as Biden benefits from it.
I think there are fewer of them. They’re just so loud and cast such long shadows.
On Twitter a few lifelong Democrats who DID vote Joe Biden are vowing never to vote Democrat again because while Biden/Hunter didn’t bother them (apparently), the voter fraud does.
Let’s hope well remember this in 2024.
I feel the real danger is when the Democrats try to APPEAR to become less socialist, less communist, more normal and people say, “See, they’re not so bad. We’ll give them another try.” That scares me!!!

Hi, Lenora -!
You keep right on writing... :)
Some of us like to have upbeat and-at-the-same-time-Common Sense-applied material to read.
Keep it up!!!!!!
Aw, thanks so much! :) This one time in history being an inveterate look-on-the-bright-side person is validated. ;) Usually I’m accused of being in denial and sometimes I am.
If you think I’m positive, you should meet my mom! The first time Michael met her, he whispered to me, “Is she on something?” LOL She won’t even take ibuprofen!
We’ll keep right on keeping on, just like President Trump! :D #MAGA2020LandslideVictory...it’s off the charts!
Awesome! Thank you so much for song. #MAGA2020
