The cat owns you.
As with the whole concept of “owning” a cat, it’s all about the cat. There are breeds that are, uh, hypoallergenic, I suppose the word is. Talk to a vet, do a little research, then get a ferret instead. Ferrets are like kittens their whole lives.
I’m allergic to cats and we’ve had them as pets. I tend to get used to the dander and I’m fine as long as the cats don’t sleep on my pillow or rub on my face. The last cat we had was a stray who adopted us. He was also a stone-cold killer and there wasn’t a mouse within miles of our house. He is gone now and very missed.
Consider pets other than Cats. I have caged birds.
I am thinking about getting a snake.
Yea but they are collecting intel on your operation and reporting back to Putin!
But ferrets don’t purr. :-(
Two of my friends + one of their husbands are severely allergic to cats. They have come and stayed with me and none of them had any reactions - usually they have red eyes, runny nose, sneezing and hives but were all shocked when nothing happened.
I have one rag doll cat and a feral/now tame long haired tabby.
start taking allergy shots. that works sometimes.
i always wanted an Eastern Indigo snake...beautiful creature...
I've always been aware of my cat allergies, but haven't needed to do anything. Rarely lived near cats.
Were I not taking daily steroid inhalations I would have asthmatic crises regularly.
The cat likes to sleep under my chin.
Two puffs of the inhaler/day means I never have asthma attacks. I don't think I use the Albuterol rescue inhaler 1X/year.
Some cats are more allergy inducing than others. It has to do with the proteins in the saliva. different cats have different proportions.
When you took a commitment to the old goat, that supersedes any future commitments you might make to a kitty.
The old goat should have some say in the matter. I know he’s allergic, but does he like cats?
We have friends and family who are allergic, so my wife does a SERIOUS cleanup before visitors, but we are in Phoenix, so we get to quarantine them to an Arizona room (3 season room elsewhere). We also use hypoallergenic air filters. That may not be sufficient depending on how allergic he is. He is also a cat person, he might be willing to take sub-lingual therapy (easier and cheaper than shots), and even though cure takes years, improvement takes place in weeks.
But they do the dookie-dookie battle dance!
You made me laugh so hard my stomach is hurting. I just posted on the Florida man/black leopard thread then I click on this one.
I refer to our cat as our teenage. She’s only nice when she wants something.
Depends on what the allergy reaction is.
I have always had cats. But my mom’s cat triggers my asthma for some reason.
I had dogs growing up. I can Pat some dogs...and if I touch my eyes....they swell and itch.
I think it’s an individual basis on the animal, really.
Get a short-haired cat, for sure!
Ceramic. Guaranteed to be as friendly and loyal as the real thing...
It depends on how much you care about your husband’s quality of life.
