I wish Trump weren’t bragging about releasing convicted felons early. People who want that are Democrats by nature. I’m not sure it’s a brag that will fire up conservatives to vote.

Nope,
Conservative votes are probably not excited about that one, but they are excited about other things. No need for more excitement. This one is for the people of color who do seem to be quite excited about voting for Trump.

To me the question is have they served a sentence that is sufficient to their crime? Serving 20-25 years on a drug rap while people who take a human life routinely serve 7 makes no sense.

He is not releasing murders, rapists, or assaulters.

He is releasing people who were convicted of non violent, minor drug offenses. Things like holding more than an ounce of pot, or the issue of a gram of crack cocaine (vs powder cocaine—they are measured the same, but are NOT really the same drug.)

The folks getting released are not, generally, going to go out and commit another felony soon.

We can agree to disagree on the initial conviction...but I just wanted to clarify who he was letting out.

Conservatives are voting for Trump.

Anyway he has put a face and bio to a realeased convicted felon now contributing to society. Conservatives are not against that.

When you read the stories of those who are commuted you see stories of true redemption.

It’s not just random releases but people who truly made the most of their time in prison and are strongly rehabilitated.

Hard to say. Many conservatives that are strong on individualism and have some libertarian tendencies, think it is horrible to lock people away for drug use and possible addiction. It is bad for the individual long term and wastes a ton of taxpayer dollars.

It’s a powerful message when you have these older non-violent criminals rotting in Federal prisons while Democrats refuse to prosecute mutants who are burning black-owned businesses to the ground.

The federal prison reform bill signed in 2017 was a bi-partisan clean up of antiquated sentencing laws and viewed as rational policy by both progs and cons when it was signed. Which is why you’ll not hear of it — shows that some things can get better even with the hot sewage government we have now...

I’m not certain what the conservative value is in keeping a 53 yo lady convicted of running a crack ring (her boyfriend was) in 1988 and serving a (ridiculous) life sentence for the “narcotics trafficking”.

I wouldn’t lose any sleep over it.

It will likely gain him more votes than he might lose and it’s not a make it or break it deal killer in voting for him.

Obama released illegal felons.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/report-u-s-released-thousands-of-immigrant-felons-last-year/

I don’t see Trump doing THAT.
