Given what's going on in many neighborhoods lately, and given that many governments let criminals do what they want, but go after citizens defending themselves from said criminal thugs and rioting mobs,
I would ask people to consider self defense insurance.
We all know the nightmare begins AFTER you've had to defend yourself.
Its something regular people like us are not prepared for because we're not life long career habitual criminals and may have had zero contacts with police and jail, and being treated like a criminal by cops and the legal system for defending your life and family and home.
And if you are like most people, you do not have an idea of just how much money this will run you, for your defense. This could cause your own personal defense to be quite poor if you cannot get good legal representation even though you were the defender/victim. Most people right now do not have tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of dollars just lying around that they would want to just spend on such a situation. And even if you did have this type of money, would you want to lose it all to years of legal expenses?
No one wants to survive a self defense scenario to lose everything they have and possibly go to jail because of substandard legal representation. I wouldn't want anyone here to. Some here live in rioting hotspots and maybe can't move at the moment.
I would just throw this out as something to consider.
You may already have coverage, as I know there is one insurance company for home and auto that also has built-in self defense coverage for home/auto policyholders. but I only know of one such company like this. So chances are if you don't have them as your home/auto insurance company, if you already don't have self-defense insurance, you're without coverage and on your own.
Many gun rights sites have reviews and comparative lists of at least five or more of the major self defense insurance companies. Doing a simple search on "self defense insurance", you will see a number of sites that discuss the various companies, and list the pros and cons they consider of their plans they offer. Almost all these companies offer a number of different plans that vary in cost, and vary in benefits, so it means lots of options for you to be able to select from and find something that fits your price and risk level. Many allow monthly or yearly billing, and they also allow cancelling at any time, and getting your unused payment back. They also allow you to instantly change your levels of coverage, if you decide you need more coverage, or less, they will let you switch membership levels. Further, some let you add in a spouse or child also onto the coverage plan at a discount.
Some let you pick your own attorney, some let you pick from a list they have available in your area, some may just assign one to you. It depends on the company. Not all are equal. This is why the site reviews of each company's plan offerings are very helpful to review.
As I said I don't work for any of these businesses. The 'pitch' here is to simply offer up this as a topic for your consideration.
I would URGE every Texas Freeper that doesn’t have this form of insurance or at the very least legal shield to get them immediately. EVERY use of force death be it shooting or any other means in Texas goes before a Grand Jury it is in our penal code. You will stand before a Grand Jury if you kill someone in Texas that’s just a fact.
Maybe we all need to have signs posted on our property that says “If you trespass on my property, I will have to assume your intentions are to harm my family and me. As such, your life will be at risk, as I will defend my family and myself. If you value your life, please do not trespass.”
Good advice. Get insurance, carry, get educated, and take care of yourself and family. You do it for your home, car, health, for you and family’s sake take care of you.
Avoid a bad situation, retreat if you can, there’s only one winner in a gun fight. You have to be that one.
Insurance and ammo are both cheap, while life is dear.
Choose accordingly.
I thought it was insane to have liability insurance in case a deer hunter fell from his own deer stand on my property. So, I quit leasing out to hunters.
Even though Texas law favors the defender, some counties have liberal DA’s who will make your life hell if you have to shoot someone. I highly recommend defense insurance. After reviewing them all, I went with USCCA for a few good reasons. They have no caps on some of their coverage, and they also insured you against civil loss.
You could also identify them in advance, like you would a rabid skunk.

Personally, next to my CPL, I carry a business card from a very good “firearms” criminal attorney in my wallet.
The old adage of saying nothing without your attorney present is golden advice. Cooperate, be polite, tell them you are suffering from shock and wish to be treated at a hospital, but say nothing until your attorney is present. A night in jail or being handcuffed in a hospital is far better than years behind bars.
Texas has Castle doctrine we already have the legal right to assume that anyone unlawfully entering our vehicle, place of business or home by their uninvited presence is prima facie evidence of nefarious intent. No retreat is necessary nor is any warning with regard to the use of force. In Texas when the use of force is authorised it is again automatically implied that deadly force is expected. Yes I was for 11 years in law enforcement I’m intimately familiar with Texas Penal code.

I’ve had Second Call Defense for about five years now.
I guess the issue would be who would provide the insurance? If you have a policy and your actions are deemed criminal (solely for political purposes), than is the insurance provider off the hook for payment?
I couldn’t imagine how statisticians could arrive at rates for this; it is different than insuring a property with a set replacement value. The loss could be massive.
And there are dangerous Soros district attorneys in Texas as well, one being Kim Ogg of Harris County. On the day she took office she fired any prosecutor she did not like, and a lot were fired. I had a neighbor who was a junior prosecutor who admitted to being a liberal Democrat, but viewed her job as enforcing the law, regardless. She viewed Kim Ogg as having too many overriding personal agendas. She was one of those fired since she was not 110% on board with the pet agendas.
Pretty wordy, but if anyone actually takes the time to read it all, it would give you more time to react.
After procrastinating for years, I bought USCCA insurance last spring. The probability of being involved with a self defense incident has sky rocketed. Why go bankrupt defending myself?
For $35 a month I get 150k for legal fees and a million in liability insurance.
Buying this insurance is banned in Washington state, the Governor/Insurance Commissioner call it ‘Murder Insurance’.
