Diversity Über Alles: Science Is Threatened by Identity Politics
James G. Martin Center for Academic Renewal ^ | October 2, 2020 | John Staddon

I have worked in academic science my entire life and I have never seen any sign of racism, systemic or otherwise. On the contrary, I have seen people go to considerable lengths to aid able minorities.

Yet a petition entitled is circulating nationally complaining that: women and “people of color” are under-represented in STEM (science, technology, engineering, math); that this is “systemic racism;” and that the cure is to change science (although it isn’t put quite like that).

If enough signatures can be gathered, the petition is apparently to be published in Science, one of the two leading general-science journals (the other is Nature).

What is Systemic Racism?

Systemic (a.k.a. institutional, structural) racism is a label. It is almost never defined.

Wikipedia says:

The term “institutional racism” was first coined in 1967 by Stokely Carmichael and Charles V. Hamilton…while individual racism is often identifiable because of its overt nature, institutional racism…“originates in the operation of established and respected forces in the society, and thus receives far less public condemnation than [individual racism].”

So how is systemic racism measured? We can get a hint from the British Macpherson Report, produced by an official commission in 1999 as a reaction to the racially motivated death of a young black boy. The report is clear about individual racism, which “consists of conduct or words or practices which disadvantage or advantage people because of their colour, culture, or ethnic origin.”

Isnt it ironic that it is the ones who burn books who claim they have no access to education?

Maybe if “women” in history burned less books in hysteria and instead started writing them and respecting those who wrote them we would have more women author of renown and more of the type in STEM.

Sick of these tribalistic people not looking inward at their own faults

I can’t wait to fly on planes designed by affirmative action morons, or have surgery performed by them, etc.

Yikes.

Remember when Liberals used to rail against book burning? It wasn’t all that long ago. Ditto with black listing and suppression of free speech.

They are against these things — until they discover they can use it to their advantage.

Liberals need to face two biological facts: females’ thought processes tend to be nuanced, and males’ thought processes tend to be constructive.

Females are nurturers,

Males are builders.

“I have worked in academic science my entire life and I have never seen any sign of racism, systemic or otherwise.”

I have dealt with some of the Woke morons. They will tell you that not seeing racism in everything is just proof that you’re so racist and the level of racism is so high that you can’t see it. It is just background noise or ambient lighting to you.
Those idiots are impossible to dissuade.

I have been in the science biz my entire working life, and other than discrimination against white males and Asians (aka "Affirmative Action"), neither have I.

I'm in a STEM field and I've seen plenty of discrimination against blacks.

But not from Whites, from Indians.

Indians discriminate against everyone (once a Patel or Desai has a say in hiring, the whole department will Patels and Desais), but they will tolerate Whites in "show" positions like Sales & Regulatory, Blacks on the otherhand they will never hire any above the position of Janitor.

Fake government jobs, and now fake corporate jobs (under threat of lawsuit), are where these tokens end up. Once they’re mixed with “real” workers, then lawsuits start because they aren’t paid the same. They don’t realize they are “wealth redistribution placeholders” with no impact on the end product - just a PC drag on the bottom line so we can pretend assimilation works.
