I’m looking for the bit at the beginning where Joe says “Good Luck” perhaps repeating what the little voice in his ear whispered to him as he began his first response. I don’t see it in the transcript.
Lol the deaf signers must have been tearing themselves up.

Because close captioning has far to go before it's really reliable.
I've seen some pretty awful closed captioning when it's done by a machine that is supposed to have the voice technology to transcribe spoken words.
Besides, not all Deaf are really as fluent in English as they could/should be, and it requires reading skills which, at this point in time, may be beyond many hearing people.
Also, ASL is its own language. Different grammar and syntax and when ASL is your first language and English is your second, they are going to get more accurate information when in a language they understand better.
Trump, although he may seem to be rambling and speaking in sentence fragments actually chooses his words carefully, you’d have to to survive in a litigious business like construction in New York. Because of thst, when you read transcripts of his press confernces, etc, you realize how right he is.
