Today I went into our local grocery store (HEB) without a mask. The young guy at the entrance asked me if I had a mask. I said, "No thank you" and kept walking. He just nodded his head and looked away. As I left the store I stopped to ask him what they were told to do in that situation. He said they were told to let the maskless person go in. He tried to tell me that it was a state law (which I educated him that it isn't). Then he tried to tell me it was a mandate from the governor (which it is). I told him that a mandate is not enforceable and he said that they were told the police would give people without masks a ticket. I then said that the ticket would not be enforceable as no law/ordinance has been passed requiring a mask. He ended with, "They want us to ask people to wear a mask to cover ourselves in case it escalates." I thanked him for the conversation and went my way. Next time I see a cop I plan to ask them about it.
“Cover.” They’re not worried about the law.
Deep Insurance is running this country now.
You should have told him yes, its covering my scrotum. Say Im very attached to my scrotum and I dont want it to get caught by something. You could ask him if hed like to see it. The mask not your scrotum.
My was working at another grocery store chain here in TX and had to ask customers to wear a mask. He periodically had to put up angry people who didn’t want to wear a mask, and Karens that felt the store hadn’t done enough.
My point is, go to the store manager. The 16 year old kid isn’t there to debate it and really doesn’t care.
Most major retailers are leaning on municipal rules. Where municipal rules are not protecting them, they are being told to be insistent but not pursue. There were too many viral videos of people going completely apeshit on retail workers, and corporate didn’t want that liability. They don’t allow “loss prevention” to pursue shop lifters, why should grocery clerks be forced to uphold a rule that’s loosely applied across the country?
You were luckier than I. I havent had any problems either with going maskless, but the grocer Sprouts is an exception. I was insistent on shopping without a mask and they called the cops on me. Its company policy, even though the governor has filled his mandate with loopholes, like for claimed medical reasons.
I had a great conversation with he responding officers, who was guardedly sympathetic to my position. They have been beaten down by Fort Worth city government, and he said that they troops were absolutely incensed when the police chief did a bow with the BLM thugs. Needless to say, the chief is on his way out, thank God.
Your what?
It would help if you would read what you wrote BEFORE you posted, yes?
Gov Abbott is an ass.
A private business may require you to wear a mask on their premises. That is their right. Your right not to wear one cannot be exercised on their property. You can go elsewhere. If you want to enjoy freedom, you must respect that it goes both ways. You cannot come into my home and take a dump in my foyer because you want to. I may take offense at such behavior.
Thanks, think I’ll try that.
I have a bandana, I use that to get in,remove it and then tell them I can’t wear a mask for medical reasons.
Why are you afraid to wear a mask?
I used to do that and then I said screw it and just don’t wear one.
It’s not fear. It’s the fact that I’m responsible to make decisions regarding my safety. If masks work then why would those wearing one be mad that I’m not? I don’t have a cough or any symptoms of any sickness.
Good for you rFreedom4u! We do the same. If anyone asks us, we say we suffer from CS. They cant legally ask what CS is, but if they do we will say, Common Sense!
Is that H-E-B public or private property?
In Texas, can private properly owners control who enters their property?
Nasty.
rfreedom4u handled everything very politely, as did the HEB employee/kid....who was just doing his job.
You’re a badass.
Clearly tougher than teens working at a grocery store.
I expect you’ll get a medal of honor soon.
Maybe at the next Trump rally.
Tougher than teens, that’s you.
