Ohio's pro-life governor makes another bizarre pro-abortion appointment

Gov. Mike DeWine, Republican of Ohio, has stepped in it again. Dr. Amy Acton resigned as director of the Ohio Health Department in June and then again in August as the governor's health adviser. DeWine subsequently nominated Dr. Joan Duwve to head the state's health department. In nominating Duwve, who most recently served as director of public health in South Carolina, DeWine is quoted as saying: "Dr. Duwve shares my passion for and commitment to children's issues and many other pressing public health issues[.] "

This turned into another embarrassment for the governor. Going back to Acton, during her tenure as health director, she came under fire for exaggerating how lethal the Wuhan virus was, her role in the ensuring state lockdowns, and her previous pro-abortion activism. You would think DeWine, a career politician, would have learned a lesson. But no: It turns out that his Dr. Duwve's passion for "children's issues" doesn't extend to the unborn, as the woman once worked for the nation's foremost abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.

The Chinese virus notwithstanding, abortion is an important factor to consider in choosing a health director. This is because the Ohio Department of Health regulates the abortion facilities in the state and has the authority to close them down if it is believed they are violating the law...

Liner011 on the AT comments board had a good point:

"DeWine was the first Republican governor to rush to the lockdown solution; so when choosing his next Health Director, finding someone that is enthusiastic about further lockdowns is his top priority.

His problem seems to be that all medical professionals that love lockdowns, also love abortion."

The Republican Party was not initially a particularly Conservative party, and the Republican Party in Ohio goes way back.

Reagan never would have fit in as a Pub in New England in any age. And the NE Republicans run true to the breed.

I lived in Columbus, Ohio for over 20 years and was involved in politics - I Never ever heard Mike DeWiner referred to as Pro-Life.

George Voinovich was truly Pro-Life and a great Governor.

I think he’s trying to play both sides for political gain.

Check out the website Conservative Treehouse. To summarize, their view is that they spying on Trump with a falsely obtained warrant was simply the continuation of the Obama administration’s NSA spying on all political opponents starting in 2012, and the only reason they needed a fake warrant was that Mike Rodgers found out about the NSA abuses which were being done by contractors (maybe Fusion GPS) and shut it down.

Now think through the implications of that. If Fusion GPS has compromat on every major Republican, how would you expect those Republicans to act when a matter of great importance to the culture war comes up?

And most politicians (like Hastert for example) were private citizens at one point and might well have been up to no good before people started paying attention to them. But NSA records are forever.

But carry that forward. Is there one politician who has been a public figure since he was born, and moreover is so transparent that he almost compulsively says whatever he thinks, so there’s really nothing you could blackmail him on even if you could had access to every phonce call he ever made, and every bit of his online activity?

Would that guy be a bigger threat to you than anyone?

And would that guy be far more attractive to the populace because he doesn’t keep doing inexpicable things that go against his principles at key moments?

And people don’t believe me when I say there is a substantial portion of the GOP that is A-OK with abortion and just paying lip service to pro-life causes.

Amy Acton is not a particularly sympathetic figure.
