It’s called CLEP exams. Strapped with long hours of military duty in my youth I CLEPPED my AA, with the exception of an elective or two.

Excellent point. A college “education” provides credentials. Most liberal arts courses indoctrinate students, while avoiding teaching critical thinking.

The dirty secret is how many taxpayer-funded students acquire four-year degrees with average 8th grade or lower skills.

If you were granting modern college equivalency degrees, you could basically just give them to our top quarter of students in junior high—and top 5-10% of students in elementary school.

There is a whole set of CLEP tests for that. You can practically graduate with the credits you can earn. Originally designed for smart veterans with lots of knowledge but spent time defending the American way of life instead of living the care free life of a student.

We don’t need all the extra classes to get to 140 college hours. You end up with things like Art Appreciation, etc, just to keep failing departments and teachers in school while generating money. You should be able to get the requirements for Engineering, Computer IT, Business In 60 hours or less. You shouldn’t have to have 12 hours of History , 12 hours of Pol Sci, etc.

If COVID has done one good thing, it’s the beginning of the destruction of methods of learning for this country. K-12 will never be same, now that parents have been forced to consider if there are better alternatives to the day cares called schools where they send their children. Likewise, standardized testing is going to be blown up, since at least two academic years are going to be “non-standard.” Homeschooling, pod learning, and virtual learning will take over. Finally, people will realize that what can be done virtually at the high school level can also be done with the busywork of college (I’ve been there).

The side effect of all this is that those with drive will go much farther than they would have otherwise because those without motivation will sink lower than ever before. It will open the field wider for the go-getters. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

My bet is that companies will begin to offer extended training, sort of like boot camp for the military, where they’ll train you if you commit to X years of service with them. This way the person gets training for free, the company gets someone with the skills they need, and the colleges are left with jack.

Whatever happened to the idea of just buying college degrees online? With colleges nowadays, the educations offered are not distinguishable from simple H.S. educations. Most of what’s offered is a piece of paper that says you attended for 4 years and made it to the end.

The biggest reason that liberals want college ‘educated’ people, is so they can be indoctrinated in socialism/communism, if they haven’t been during their k-12 years.

The College Level Examination Program is a group of standardized tests created and administered by the College Board. These tests assess college-level knowledge in thirty-six subject areas and provide a mechanism for earning college credits without taking college courses.

Excellent article. When getting my master’s degree I had to take “leveling” undergraduate courses because that degree was not in the same area. When I found I could comp-out (demonstrate competency) by taking the final exam only for 1/2 the cost, I self-studied a couple weeks and passed the courses.

A key book in this area is Clayton Christensen’s “Disrupting Class”. Massive change will come to higher ed.

I’ve always been an advocate for testing for technical, engineering and trade jobs. It would be great for government hiring, and we’d see fewer communists fastened to government positions.

Google is now offering 100,000 scholarships. Here’s how you can get one.

Here’s what you need to know.

Google Scholarships
Google is giving away 100,000 scholarships so you can earn an online certificate in these three areas:

data analytics;
project management; and
user experience (UX) design

Here’s the kicker: Google will treat these online Google Career Certificates as the equivalent of a four-year degree. Yes, the equivalent of a four-year degree if you apply for a related role at Google.

Google Career Certificates
There are three new Google Career Certificates that you can earn:

Recommended For You:

1. Data Analytics
Google says that data analysts can earn $66,000 a year (median) and analyze data and make data-driven recommendations to inform essential business decisions. The certificate provides the tools for “navigating the data lifecycle using tools and platforms to process, analyze, visualize and gain insights from data.”

2. Project Management
Google says that project managers can earn $93,000 a year (median) and help plan and oversee projects efficiently. Google says this online certificate focuses on “the foundations of traditional project management, while also offering insight into agile project management.”

3. User Experience (UX) Design
Google says a UX designer can earn $75,000 a year (median) and help create a simpler, more accessible and more enjoyable experience for users. Google says this online certificate provides “the foundations of UX design and research, building low-fidelity designs and wireframes, creating high-fidelity prototypes and testing.”

These three new programs follow the Google IT Certificate, which Google launched in 2018.

Back in the ‘80s some colleges were offering college degrees through “Work Life Experience”. I looked into it. So the concept has been around a while. Pass the tests (they weren’t easy from what I could tell) and get a degree. I didn’t follow through, but knew I was better equipped to do many of the jobs where I worked than most of those with degrees. Sometimes learning OTJ is more productive than sitting in lectures.

Just use the SAT. Make it mandatory before granduating HS. Top 5%, collect college degree or equivalent cert.

Top 10%-5% get certified as Junior. Take one year of senior-level courses, get degree.

Top 15%-10% ditto as Sophmores.

Top 20-15% get in as Freshman

Everyone below, find a tradeschool.

But, but, but...

I just spent $25,000 per year for 5 years to buy this School Tie from your Prestigious Institution that is supposed to guarantee me access to “all the best jobs”.

Now you tell me that some Bozo from Flyover Country can take a test to prove he has the same skills & abilities as I and can do that same job just as well?

It’s not FAIR!

How about a test to show a college degree was actually earned at a college level? Most colleges are below High School level educations.

One of the credentials you get with a degree is proving you can stick to something. Do the hard work, stay with the program, get a 4 year degree. There’s no way of testing out of that.

Want an Engineering “GED”? Just pass the two eight hour professional exams. A fair number of serious students could pass the first one if they prepared for it. The second one - not so much.
