Moisturizing the tissue and protecting against disease.
Aerosolized particles (primarily mucus and saliva) are both inhaled and exhaled as a normal part of respiration.
Where did you get your medical degree?
Uh ... I kind of think someone who has been a DOCTOR for 30 years knows a teeny bit more than you do. Boy, talk about "offal for cerebral matter" ....
Oh, and it's "dumbass", not "dumass".
Biden is constantly touching his face and adjusting his mask. He might as well lick a toilet.
You don’t need N95 masks in order to reduce transmissibility within the general public. Keep the N95 masks for those at significantly higher exposure risk (e.g. front-line healthcare workers). Mean initial droplet sizing is ~80um (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7301882/), which a cloth mask can largely filter. Keeping viral payloads from spreading into the area of the uninfected individuals has obvious advantages. There have been plenty of studies looking at this and while cloth masks vary widely in their effectiveness, nearly all (few exceptions such as bandanas) are found to be better than nothing (https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/disaster-medicine-and-public-health-preparedness/article/testing-the-efficacy-of-homemade-masks-would-they-protect-in-an-influenza-pandemic/0921A05A69A9419C862FA2F35F819D55 and https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0002618 for example).
CDC cites multiple studies (including those last two) in their own literature review and analysis (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/10/20-0948_article). Fig 6-9 in the above NIH study provide clear illustrations of how both the volume and distance traveled for respiratory droplets is vastly reduced via the use of simple cloth masks. The recent Duke study provides additional evidence of that (https://advances.sciencemag.org/content/early/2020/08/07/sciadv.abd3083).
Haven’t seen an actual source for any of this, so it’s difficult to determine whether the claimed credentials are based in reality. The content suggest to me that the original author may not be a real doctor, but I also could be wrong about that. I’m certainly not just taking them at their word, especially with content like that which flies in the face of so many published studies that provide direct evidence to the contrary of what’s being said. And beyond that, there’s the issue of an apparent lack of acknowledgement (or perhaps understand?) that SARS-CoV-2 requires a protective layer of moisture to prevent its protein structure from denaturing within dry air.
Even under idealized experimental conditions, SARS-CoV-2 within an aerosolized spray has a half-life of ~1 hour (https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmc2004973).
Im using the Democrat mask theory to keep mosquitoes out if my back yard. Im putting up a chain link fence!
Well, you do raise some good points, I’ll certainly concede that.
Will just be SO GLAD when this whole thing is just a memory, won’t you?
Fine. But I’m not coughing and I’m not sneezing. Why do I have to wear a mask?
“The doctor is a dumass.”
Only a dumbass would spell it dumass. (And you want to be our latex salesman — uh ... medical expert.)
Absolutely. I’m growing more and more confident that President Trump will be announcing the approval of one or more vaccines in October, hopefully with wide availability not long after. With that, the masks and the lockdowns, and the social distancing, and all the rest of it can be tossed right in the garbage. The sooner this disease is eradicated the better.
Then we just need to get back to the business of rebuilding the economy and replacing Ginsburg and one of her buddies on the SCOTUS.
“And watch out for that strep infection”
Isn’t it staph infection the masks are giving?
Inches? I was in the business of dealing with small things. It was always, microns, nanometers and angstroms. Never inches.
Because talking also generates respiratory droplets. And you may not be coughing, but considering most cases have either no symptoms or symptoms so mild you could easily mistake it for allergies or something equally as benign, it’s easy to be walking around spreading it through crowds without even realizing you’re doing so. Those people who are then exposed go home to friends or loved ones who are vulnerable for any one of many different reasons (~42% obesity rate in the US?), have no idea they’ve been exposed, and suddenly vulnerable people are getting it passed to them.
That’s why we’re seeing ~1,000 people a day die. Cuomo isn’t packing nursing homes with COVID-19 patients anymore (he’s too busy trying to cover that debacle up). It’s spreading rapidly through communities and finding people who are vulnerable to it. And it’s killing those people.
OMG, youll get zits!!!
If, by “zits”, you’re referring to staph infection, I feel sorry for your family, whose lives are endangered by a parent’s idiocy. My dad dismissed my staph infection as simple “growing pains”, and I almost died.
C-98 - Make no mistake, Louie will be voting for Biden, newest Mask Cult Leader.
I think masks give you some protection. I just think it should be a personal choice. I don’t wear a mask in the garden center at Home Depot but Wally World is a different story.
“Surgeons wear masks to prevent BACTERIA from traveling from their mouth to the open body....they do not wear them to stop viruses.”
Thank you for posting that. No matter how often someone gives that particular information, the low-i.q. people can’t absorb it into their defective brains.
Also, the size of bacteria vs virus is remarkable (”Bacteria are giants when compared to viruses”), making our quilting-fabric masks even more ridiculous.
