Freedom is amazing because, unless you are God, it is impossible to know exactly what it is and where it will take you. (See the micro-movie in the link for how this has happened to me today: from street art to Whitman to Virgil to God knows what next.)
Is this the most important American presidential election for freedom since 1964?
Nobody knew then that the presidential careers of two two-term presidents (Nixon - debatable as a two-termer? - and Reagan) would have a re-beginning in Nixon's case and a beginning in Reagan's case.
As I see it, this happened because Goldwater stood up for freedom so explicitly and powerfully.
America wasn't ready for what Goldwater offered in 1964, anymore than the blue "half" of America (and the occasional RINO from Utah etc) has been ready for the call to freedom which is the Trump Presidency.
What do Freepers have to say?
If an American Hall of Fame of Freedom ranked the great events, people, things for freedom in American history, where would the Trump presidency rate?
Way below the constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address would be my guess.
Above Bob Dylan's world class poetic mastery of English for creativity in the '60's and occasionally after that?
Above Hank Williams for the liberation of the American voice to be heard and loved as American in song?
Above Leaves Of Grass?
Above the adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn?
“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction”
- President Ronald Reagan
We are a whole lot closer to that line today than ever before. If Trump loses, the best imaginable option will be horrific on a scale not seen here in 155 years.
WWII vets ran the country in the sixties. At the time, your school teacher, college professor, doctor, dentist, lawyer, or accountant was likely to be a WWII vet. When the Boomers (of which I am one) began to replace them, the country began to slide downhill.
This is the most important Presidential election since 1860!
Never has the words of Barry Goldwater been more appropriate.
“Extremism in the name of liberty is no vice”
“Moderation in the name of justice is no virtue”
Would love to have seen what our country would look like after 8 years of a Goldwater presidency.
Unfortunately, Barry Goldwater has been dead for 22 years - which means he's still more qualified than Joe Biden.
Yes, Goldwater is dead, and even today, hair sniffer Joe, would lose in a debate with him. 😁🤣
