Good point. And both words are often used with the same lack of discernment. As in,
Some liberals: “Since you agreed with something Trump said you must be a racist.”
And the reverse:
Some conservatives: “Since disagreed with something Trump said you must be a troll.”

I get accused of being a troll on “mostly leftist” sites all the time. And trolling is against the rules, if you get my drift.
I’m considered a troll if I say something positive about Trump in a thread primarily dissing him. The thought is that I’m just saying it to piss off a bunch of leftists. And that is even if I actually make an argument with links to back it up. Their argument is that I’m like a black guy that sticks his head intto a KKK meeting and yells, “I love white women!”

Well, they may possibly be accounts set up for that purpose.
I think the shorter amount of time they are here, and then a dramatic viewpoint change, as you mention, coincidentally around major election time, could be an indicator of it.
For those with longer/older accounts, it could also be longer term shifting attitudinal changes. I’ve seen people who are on the right over time move towards the left. while still believing they are conservatives or feeling they haven’t changed.
Is that an exaggeration? If you substitute Lindsay Graham for Pelosi I could see it. I don't think I have ever seen a FReeper post something like that about Pelosi unless they were a one-and-done-zotted poster.

I hear you. Been around since 2000, and I’ve posted a total of 77 threads and 15,961 replies. I get called names by the FR neocon contingent on a regular basis.
Bottom line is I don’t like our Foreign Policy, and any criticism of it seems to bring out such cogent replies as “Sockpuppet, Putin’s butt boy, Assadist, Communist”.

Sharing your thoughts are what we do. Debate is part of that. Attacking with insults and snide remarks is unbecoming. I’ve noticed over the years a coarsening of language on FR. Lowering our standards is not good.
1996 and never started a thread. Pro evolution pro Trump. Supported GWBush but only because it was him or Gore/Kerry. Had no choice on McCain and Romney but went for Perot over Dole. I also believe COVID is hyped way way way beyond the actual threat and am genuinely appalled at how many on FR have bought in to the panicdemic narrative. FR was always a place where the comments were better than the articles but really degenerated over the last 10 years. Before this was a niche website for conservatives but now a target for liberals to disrupt They can’t stand free thought.
