Beware of the Trolls

As someone who has been a longtime member with few posts, one cannot judge by number of posts alone. One should judge via the content and if one doesn’t agree with points made, post a meaningful retort. Generally not a good idea to get into a name calling match. Remember: Don’t feed the trolls!

I see calling any person a troll as an ad-hominem attack.

If you don’t like what someone is saying or proposing, prove them wrong.

A person, even one who is clearly on the "other side", who would listen to reason or proof or logic is, by definition, NOT a troll. If we had a lefty on here, for example, who posted "I am a lefty and I think you're all Nazis" that wouldn't be trolling. That would be a lefty trying to argue with us.

A true troll is someone who is not here to have a reasoned debate. A troll is here to subvert, undermine, and destroy, if possible. A common troll tactic is simply to agitate in order to try to get regular posters to leave the site all together.

A true troll, and I have seen a few on this forum, will not reason at all. If you present a logical response to a comment that a troll cannot refute, the troll will simply ignore your response, and either continue with the same argument, or move on to another one. The objective is not reasoned argument. It is subversion.

With that in mind, trolls should be identified.

It’s ironic, threads like this always bring out the political posers who’ll get up here and play innocent and attempt to rationalize their never-Trump agenda.

It’ll get much worse as we approach November. Check this thread below when some of them came out of the wood work to bad mouth Trump back in 2015, when he announced his run. Some of them got booted, others still remain.

Then, there is some serious syndrome that seems to infect long-time FR's. Apparently and unfortunately, this can affect those from the beginning of the internet and FR itself.

I don’t consider “troll” to be a dirty word. One of the things I love about Trump is that he is the master troll. And I’m a “troll” on liberal sites, according to them.

Troll is simply a catch all phrase used by some as an excuse to get someone banned.

I’m an adult. I don’t let people “overtly” troll me. If they are able to, kudos to them.
