Rep. Karen Bass on Sunday walked back 2016 comments praising Cuban leader Fidel Castro, as scrutiny of her views toward the Communist government threatened her potential selection as former Vice President Joe Biden's running mate.
On “Fox News Sunday,“ the California Democrat faced questions about several visits to Cuba in the 1970s and a statement she released after Castro's 2016 death saying, "the passing of the Comandante en Jefe is a great loss to the people of Cuba.”
Bass told Fox host Chris Wallace that her perspective "developed over time" and that she now understood that the Castro government "was a brutal regime." Bass said she spoke with colleagues from Florida who raised concerns about her comments and that she "would not do that again, for sure."
"I absolutely would have not put that statement out," she said.
Scrutiny of Bass, the chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, has grown in recent days as she has emerged as a top contender to be Biden's pick for vice president on the Democratic ticket.

This shows she is well qualified to be Bidon’s VP, as she’s just as willfully ignorant as he. Or just as corrupt?
Maybe she should also renounce her self-professed “mentor” Communist Party member Oneil Cannon and explain in detail how his ideology was wrong and when she and the Congressional Black Caucus abandoned it. She should also renounce other CBC members who have espoused Communist ideology, starting with John Lewis and proceeding to Elijah Cummings, Shirley Chisholm, John Conyers, Ron Dellums, Charlie Rangel, Barbara Lee, Hank Johnson, Sheila Jackson-Lee, Bobby Rush, Jim Clyburn, Al Green, Maxine Waters, Alcee Hastings, Emanuel Cleaver, etc. . .She should also explain her participation in a 2015 delegation to Ferguson to meet the CP-affiliated Organization for Black Struggle. . .
I’m waiting for someone to take a position and then renounce it the next day saying their views have evolved since then.
