You can’t take away people’s links to normal life and expect it to be free of consequences.
Everyone is different, and some people rely heavily on contact and socializing with others for support, mental health, or just to talk.
Me, not so much. I could go six months without speaking to another person and be fine, but everyone is not like me, as my girlfriend (the ultimate extrovert and social butterfly) likes to point out every so often.
Ever seen the movie “Jeremiah Johnson”? That’s me.
Covid deaths. All of them.

Also doesn’t count the people who will die due to delayed routine screenings (CT scans, colonoscopies, skin cancer checks, etc.) because the Dems/Media scared people into hiding in their homes.
And our moron governor just locked Maryland down more.
This must stop. Tyrannical governors need to be arrested.
Context is important.
Below is the quote from Director Redfield that the article is based on.
It appears Director Redfield is specifically addressing the high school age population when he states suicide and overdose deaths exceed COVID deaths.
The argument supports opening schools.
“But there has been another cost that weve seen, particularly in high schools. Were seeing, sadly, far greater suicides now than we are deaths from COVID. Were seeing far greater deaths from drug overdose that are above excess that we had as background than we are seeing the deaths from COVID. So this is why I keep coming back for the overall social being of individuals, is lets all work together and find out how we can find common ground to get these schools open in a way that people are comfortable and their safe. And if there is a need for investment and resources, just like there is a need for some of the underprivileged children that are probably better served if they have certain comorbidities to do homeschooling, they need the access to be able to have the computer and the internet to do that.”
Yep, he was specifically referring to H.S. age kids....the increase in suicides and OD’s in that age group is higher than the COVID-19 death count in that age group. He is blaming it on school closures.
Yep - we know some folks who had been booze/drug =free fro substantial amounts of time who are back at it...and a few of my wife’s friends are seeking counseling for depression...it finally got to the boiling point where folks are suffering from the effects of long-term scare tactics and being cut off from normal socialization - I’m fortunate in that I’m not a social animal and am comfortable being alone for extended periods....my wife needs the social interaction and is starting to show the signs of stress.
My favorite movie.
“The way that you wander
is the way that you chose.
The day that you tarry,
is the day that you lose.”
(Well - that’s how I hear those lyrics anyway).
