The mock revolution of the elites
Spectator USA ^ | 7-28-2020 | Daniel McCarthy

Progressive liberals get a psychic reward from incanting the right words

‘Protesters in California set fire to a courthouse, damaged a police station and assaulted officers after a peaceful demonstration intensified,’ ABC News recently tweeted. The wording was perfect — better than any satire as an illustration of the corporate media’s biases. These biases have lately come at cost for CNN and the Washington Post, both of which have paid to settle the suits brought against them by Nick Sandmann, a Covington Catholic High School student whose life they nearly destroyed last year. But the corporate media cannot be embarrassed into mending its ways, neither by its own risible tweets nor by lawsuits from the people harmed by its misreporting. Nobody with any real market power is going to boycott the advertisers of CNN or ABC News, and the Washington Post does not need advertising at all as long as it’s owned by the owner of Amazon.com. Who can boycott Amazon?

"The Mock Revolution" perpetrated by white college-edumacated women with purple hair and/or college-age young kids, marketed by the rich "elites" is but a grand scale CosPlay. They get to play at courageous revolutionaries Standing Up to The Man, knowing full well there won't be any consequences for their act.

Even if they are to be arrested, the Dem stronghold politicians and "Hollywood/Sports/etc. Elites" will bail them out so that they don't even spend any time in jail.

The plague of our time isn’t Wu flu.

It’s malignant narcissism.

And the Wu flu is showing signs of going away.

Meanwhile, narcissism seems stronger than ever, with 60+ days of rioting the best evidence.

Exactly. I think Trump has been humoring them, hoping the brats will have their moment and then go back to their rooms to watch porn. But honestly, I do think he’s got to do more.

If it were just the brats, that would be one thing. But it’s mayors and governors rejecting federal authority and he needs to call them on it.

It’s not narcissism that they are exhibiting, but instead nihilism.

I have mixed emotions about this. On the one hand allowing rioting, lawless behavior and the willful endangerment of lives and property is something that will get worse and spread if unchecked. Watching the anarchy night after night is further dividing the country.

On the other hand there are some good reasons to let go on. Its their cities and if they want to destroy them and set an indelible example of the failures of liberalism, then why stop them? Its federalism after all, and states should have the right to make their own decisions, even if they’re destructively wrong ones.

Seattle and Portland may never be able to restore their images after all this city sanctioned destruction. Let the residents learn (the hard way) that elections have consequences.

Good observation. But are they mutually exclusive?

it was always on the cards that wealthy Dem donors would short the markets just before November to make the booming Trump economy look bad.

however, that was before the Dems had covid and the shut-downs, which crashed the economy almost overnight.

who could have predicted that?

I completely agree with you. The market is manipulated all the time in my opinion and certain groups of investors are very capable of moving it in the desired direction, given sufficient motivation. October could still be an “interesting” month given the political stakes.

Just like IBM and AT&T had near monopolies in their industries, something will happen that will decrease Amazon's market share. There's always some upstart that will start to eat their lunch.

I really thought about this and I agree that they really aren’t mutually exclusive. While the left lashes out when they don’t get attention (narcissism), they also don’t believe in the truth and warp the “truth” to serve their purposes (nihilism). I tried hard to think of an example where the two were mutually exclusive and I simply can’t think of one.i

Thanks for your thoughtful reply to my post.

With all the insane crap we’re dealing with these days, a courteous exchange of views is an increasingly rare pleasure.
