NC Teachers’ Union Demands Universal Health Care, Welfare for Illegal Immigrants to Reopen Schools
Washington Free Beacon ^ | July 17, 2020 | Collin Anderson

A North Carolina teachers' union is calling for the implementation of universal health care and welfare benefits for illegal immigrants in order to reopen schools in the fall.

Just days after the Durham Association of Educators (DAE) issued a statement railing against the school district's reopening plan, Durham Public Schools voted unanimously to hold all classes virtually for at least the first nine weeks of the school year. Included in the DAE statement was a call to adopt a variety of far-left policy goals before holding in-person classes, including Medicare for All and "direct income support regardless of immigration status."

"There are concrete policies that have permitted other countries to flatten the curve and return to public life: moratoriums on rent and mortgage, universal health care, direct income support regardless of immigration status," the statement reads. "We must fight together, collectively, for changes that will permit our communities to thrive during this pandemic and beyond."

The union's statement also calls for a full shutdown of the state, saying "until that is done, remote learning should remain the default."

The district did not respond to a request for comment...

Fire any teachers not willing to do their job and disband the NEA.

I’d say no federal funds for Durham.

Pikers.

If I was them, I’d be demanding the abolition of private property ownership, removal of all statues to be replaced with Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx, and the total genocide of the white race.

Or we refuse to do our jobs and teach.

This is one more reason why school choice should be a major issue.

what a scam "remote" teaching turned out to be.....why we paid teachers to not work is beyond me..

but this is what the progressives have done....property taxes are NOT forgiven if the schools are not working...those idiots get paid no matter what...

Too bad NC doesn’t have a real Governor, I’d tell them the first day of school is August 17th. If they are not at their desk they will be in breach of contract and their paycheck will be stopped.

Teachers unions should be outlawed along with every other public sector unions.

Note to Trump:

Need to sue Teachers’ Union for federal funds spent on illegal aliens so they can add it to their union dues.

I’m a teacher in NC and waited somewhat anxiously this week for the governor to reveal his directive for returning to school. When I heard that he was going with Plan B, a hybrid of face to face and online instruction, I was deeply disappointed. On Thursday our local school board (Rockingham County) opted for total online instruction for at least the first month. Disappointment turned to resentment. It makes me feel like quitting.
I have known the joy of touching/changing lives, waking the sleeping to the life going on all around them, playing a part in the equipping of young people for the challenges that await. I have known, too, the impossibility of achieving these goals in the face of a broken, misguided, and often antithetical to learning system that public education has become. As a Christian, I have come to accept where the Lord has me and to be the salt and light there as best I can.
I will be entering my 26th year of teaching and do not want to end my career teaching from my basement! Few of my students did any work of any worth this past spring; I anticipate more of the same going forward.
I do not take my job, my responsibility as a teacher lightly. I’ve always looked at it as the second most important job on earth (right after parenting). I was hoping to go out “on my shield” and now it looks as if I will go out being dragged at the back of Achilles’ chariot!

I concur. Do we need any more proof of their destructive intent?

I say bust public unions and make those teachers, administrators, and bureaucrats, etc. find employment on the level, in the real world economy.

Property owners need to start demanding a refund of the portion of property tax paid that funded the schools. The schools were shut down and the online “teaching” was a joke.

The thing is you are a real teacher, one who has a calling not a career. You are the type of person who changes lives for the better. A true teacher is someone who people remember their whole lives.

Don’t give up. Children need you.

I decided on becoming a teacher because of a teacher I had in elementary school who made quite an impression on my life (in fact, several of my teachers did). Then came Christ into my life (just before I graduated with my degree) and, yep, it all made sense-it was His calling on my life. Those moments I have felt most alive have occurred when I have been fully engaged in the work He has given me to do. My life was literally spared from some near-death experiences when I was younger, and, looking back one day, I realized He saved me for His purposes and that involved my getting up in front of young people to help them figure things out. I try to impart that very same lesson (discovering God’s purpose for your life) to my students, as well. Can’t do it from my basement, though(or at least I haven’t figured out how to do so.)
