Americans purchased millions more guns than usual this spring, spurred in large part by racial animosity stoked by widespread protests over the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, as well as anxiety over the effects of the covid-19 pandemic.
That gun-buying binge is associated with a significant increase in gun violence across the United States.
Those are the conclusions of two studies by the Brookings Institution and the University of California at Davis, respectively. Together, they paint a portrait of a society arming itself against social upheaval during a time of institutional failure.
The Brookings study, after examining federal background check data, estimated an additional 3 million firearms were sold from March through June, compared with the same period in previous years. That’s roughly equivalent to the spike in gun purchases observed following the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting and more than 50 percent higher than would have been expected for June sales.
Nearly half of those 3 million additional sales happened in June, after several days of protests sparked by Floyd’s killing in police custody. Researchers Phillip Levine and Robin McKnight of Wellesley College wrote that the spike differed from previous gun-buying binges because it was not driven by fear of pending restrictions but rather by anxiety and unease over the ongoing crises.

The reason they are always in a frenzy against second amendment rights for law-abiding citizens and support defunding or eliminating the police, yet seem completely unconcerned about gangbangers shooting people all the time in the inner city, is that they hope to make these gangbangers the new “militia” replacing the police.
With government enforcing programs like Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing, they will bring this “militia” to every decent neighborhood and set them loose upon their enemies.
All of their ideologies we have been scrutinizing and debating for so long appear to be just smokescreens behind which there is simply hate, hatred by one set of people for those whom they consider to be their enemies, a hatred for which there is no limit to what they would do to satisfy it.

I could see 1st time gun owners with no training at all being a part of the up-tick. Don’t know how to safely load it, handle it, use it. Just literally fumbling their way through. Just one aspect of some of the idiots out there.

Philadelphia was already having really high murders in late March/early April, same with Baltimore and Chicago. The riots didn’t really kick in until the end of May and early June.

Of interests is my wife’s childhood friend of several decades bought her first gun ever for self defense.
Correlation does not equal causation.
But that won’t stop the dems from lying to push their agenda.
Some people don’t get it.
The media is the communications division for deep state. Nobody destabilizes and undermines entire countries like deep state.
Every one of those researchers should go back to high school because they are too stupid for college. If they weren’t soiled by liberal stupidity they would know the people buying the guns legally aren’t killing anyone. The killings are happening in the same neighborhoods who now have less police protection.

Correlations does not equal causation. If there were a true correlation/causation it would be that violence in the streets is causing more people to buy guns
Given this level of hatred and propaganda, there is no other possible conclusion but this: WAR is coming, people. Get ready.
Not a word about connecting the violence to newly purchased firearms. They also fail to establish cause and effect: did the new guns cause the increase in violent crime or, vice versa?
In other news, a spike in Covid deaths followed a rise in social distancing.
