Yesterday President Trump flew into Yuma, Arizona for a visit. I joined other members of the community by the airport to witness the landing of Air Force 1. Just standing around for about an hour and 15 minutes I was able to see a lot about our community.
People were informally gathering along the side of the road, near the fairgrounds, to get a spot to see the landing. By and large this group started at about 200 when I arrived and swelled to about 500 probably more. The early arrivals were almost exclusively Trump supporters and there was no doubt about that.. You could see Trump banners, Trump stickers and Trump T-Shirts on nearly all of the early arrivals.
The media was out and I saw them interviewing groups of Trump supporters.
About a half hour before the scheduled landing, the protesters showed up. About 15 of them at most. They came in caravan and stole the most exposed locations to show their signs. To an uninformed person, it could even create the illusion that everyone in their vicinity was a Trump protester.
It was pretty clear they were organized and coached to get visibility. I watched them walk by and to a person, they homed in on the media cameras. It was almost comical to see them walk a gauntlet of Trump supporters (not making any contact) searching for the cameras. Then the signs popped up and the media noticed. Of course, they were all over the few protesters in a heartbeat.
To be fair, I didn't see anything particularly biased in the later reporting of the event from Yuma Daily Dissapointment (our paper) or on the TV news. Perhaps they figured a ratio of about 50:1 in support of the President would be hard to sell as a protest here.
Overall I walked away with two impressions:
1) The Trump supporters were there because they wanted to be there. I suppose their decision to be there was spontaneous for the most part, as was mine.
2) The Trump protesters were there because they were organized to be there.
I wish I could point to the exact numbers....
But the other day I saw a post that put into perspective just how small and insignificant our BLM/Antifa/Media enemies are. They really are a small percentage of our population.
The fact they yell really loud and can destroy monuments is no reason to worry.
Good people like you, who will wait hours to see the President’s plan, is evidence enough that America will prevail.
Channel 3, lastnight, was very negative. They said Trump would have to answer for the fact that he had no crowd outside supporting him, and the people they were expecting fell far short of what they were expecting.
I turned it off...too negative.
Regardless, it is the party line right now to claim small crowds. They couldn't do that for the Phoenix rally so they bitched about no one wearing masks.
The part about no crowd is pure BS.
I would completely agree with this assessment some key points:
1) They are not afraid of being very vocal and in your face, which makes it appear that they are stronger and possess greater numbers.
2) They are not afraid to get "dirty" should they perceive it is necessary: riots, looting, burning $hit, etc. This in turn serves to amplify the appearance that there are greater numbers and or support. Just look at the differences in approaches when considering left-wing rallies versus conservative rallies and the amount of the garbage and/or damage left in the wake.
3) The left have no desire to play within the system, so they are not afraid to disregard it completely. This is further reinforced when #1 above occurs and our supposed elected leaders do nothing, or even worse, prevent authorities from stepping in.
America truly is on the precipice. Sadly, we conservatives have tried time and time again to wage battle within the courts, and by electing officials who promise to stand for us, yet typically fall far from our expectations and their promises.
Does anyone know when President Trump arrived in Phoenix?
There was a major fire south of Anthem. This is the far north end of the valley away from the airport.
My son’s family saw a lot of smoke in their neighborhood and were prepared to evacuate.
Fire officials believe the fire had several points of origin and was set purposefully. It was first reported around 2:30 in the afternoon.
I wonder if there was an intent to steal the local news cycle away from a presidential visit.
He left Yuma after 1:30 so it is possible.
