‘How Could the CDC Make That Mistake?’
The Atlantic ^ | May 21, 2020 | ALEXIS C. MADRIGAL and ROBINSON MEYER

The government’s disease-fighting agency is conflating viral and antibody tests, compromising a few crucial metrics that governors depend on to reopen their economies. Pennsylvania, Georgia, Texas, and other states are doing the same.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is conflating the results of two different types of coronavirus tests, distorting several important metrics and providing the country with an inaccurate picture of the state of the pandemic. We’ve learned that the CDC is making, at best, a debilitating mistake: combining test results that diagnose current coronavirus infections with test results that measure whether someone has ever had the virus. The upshot is that the government’s disease-fighting agency is overstating the country’s ability to test people who are sick with COVID-19. The agency confirmed to The Atlantic on Wednesday that it is mixing the results of viral and antibody tests, even though the two tests reveal different information and are used for different reasons.

Just like “poll” numbers, these gubmit statistics on corona virus are BOGUS! Not that they ever were accurate, but certainly not NOW!

Everybody is working the numbers to THEIR advantage.

Adding dead people to the rolls, resurrecting dead people and counting them, conflating different tests, dying FROM COVID-19 or dying WITH COVID-19.

The death certificate MUST say COVID-19 or we lose MONEY!
But he died of a heart attack? Well, if not for the heart attack he WOULD have caught COVID-19 and died from that.

This is not good.
Some states are also doing it.

That is problematic. The antibody tests are not very reliable. They have a high false positive rate, which means they are not very good for determining past infection.

Since when should terrible incompetence in bureaucracy be a surprise?

Exactly. Seems to be used by Democrat governors to go, see we can’t open the state yet too many people are tested positive, will probably much higher number are asymptomatic and even a greater number have had it over this whole crisis and you never know About it. The number to watch and monitor is the number that need medical treatment from it, I E flat in the curve, which we have done. It’s time to get things open back up again.

The two mouth breathers who wrote this piece obviously know nothing.

But they think that somehow, this can be a critique of the Administration, because, I guess, they found a Harvard professor who doesn’t like the way the CDC is reporting their data. Or something.

Nobody’s claming that an aggregated test count is driving any actions. It’s theatre. This writer sets that up as his thesis than smashes it. Strawman fallacy.

Driving any actions?

Anybody who uses the CDC data to see what the number of new cases are is being misled if they aggregate the count and if they don't say so.

I assume the Worldometer doesn't use such aggregated data. I've been looking there.

The CDC has been terrible. Most people here don't blame Trump for that. It's just another infested establishment agency that Trump will have to drain when the time is right.

from CGTN (FORMERLY CCTV), Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China.
Rod Rosenstein’s CDC sister gets a mention, via rumours “reported” by NYT. doubt if either “scriptwriter” voiced the video:

VIDEO: 6m24s: 20 May: CGTN America: Commentary: When politics trumps science
Scriptwriter: Zhao Yuanzhen, Liu Jianxi
Trump’s 2016 campaign trail impressed many partly due to his public disdain for science, including his skepticism of vaccine and his claims that climate change is a “hoax” made up by China.
Many could not imagine that his approach to the presidency would follow the same path, that he would ignore expert knowledge and scientific experience for his own political gain. But the current COVID-19 crisis has proved them wrong.

Trump administration’s recent decision to remove Rick Bright, the country’s top virus expert amid the height of the public health crisis, has again shocked the science world.

The scientist, who is in charge of developing a COVID-19 vaccine, said he was fired for questioning a drug touted by Trump.
According to a research done by the Veteran Health Administration in the U.S., hydroxychloroquine and the related chloroquine have shown little effectiveness in treating COVID-19 patients. It could even increase the risk of death in certain patients...

On February 25, (ROD ROSENSTEIN’S SISTER) Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases issued a public warning to the country that the virus was almost certainly going to spread among American people. The CDC also urged hospitals and communities to be more prepared for the spread.
But Trump’s first reaction was not to consider whether an epidemic will happen in the U.S., but to get angry over her comments as the stock market crashed. “On the 18-hour plane ride home, Mr. Trump fumed as he watched the stock market crash after Dr. Messonnier’s comments. Furious, he called Mr. Azar raging that Dr. Messonnier had scared people unnecessarily.” The New York Times reported about Trump’s fury...
It was not only Messonnier who is “speaking up.” Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, has also repeatedly contradicted the President’s claims...

As Trump keeps firing anyone who disagrees with him, the White House is sinking into Trump’s own political machine that crushes America’s own credibility. And the answer why America has performed so poorly in the COVID-19 battle may just lie in its long tradition of undermining scientific expertise for political reasons.

Sounds like the CDC is playing it’s assigned part in the Plandemic to take out Trump. If some old fogies die for the cause, we didn’t need them around collecting Social Security anyway. Nothing but useless eaters and users of medicine and space.

The CDC wasn’t caught off guard. It has been executing a mission against Trump, the American economy, and the American people.
