I created this anti-lockdown meme. It’s a photograph from the 1969 Woodstock music festival, which took place during a flu pandemic that killed more than 100,000 people in the U.S., and more than 1 million worldwide.

You can see a bigger version at this link: https://imgflip.com/i/41quz7

It says:

The 1969 Woodstock music festival took place during a flu pandemic that killed more than 100,000 people in the U.S., and more than 1 million worldwide.

Schools, restaurants, and movie theaters also remained open.

It took 2 years to get those 100k deaths in 68-69. We're almost there in 3 months with extreme measures being taken.

And the population in 1969 was 202,000 and is now 329,000. So that figures to 329/202*100,000 = 163,000 in today's terms. Todays inflated CDC numbers won't come close to the 1969 equivalent.

Give the Kool-Aid a rest.

Adjusting for increased population now and a MUCH higher percentage today of folks 65 and over, the HK Flu, if it happened today, would kill at least 250,000 Americans. We would have to lockdown and wear masks and full-body condoms in our houses if today’s leadership got hold of that one!

I was around for the HK flu (high school senior during the peak). No schools closed. Basketball season went forward undeterred. Business remained open and large gatherings went on as usual.

The general response in 1969 was “Bad flu this year, huh?” “Yup.”

By all indications the China Virus and HK Flu are fairly similar in health and mortality impact. One may be 20% better or worse than the other. We’ll know in a couple of years. Neither of them are the black death or the Spanish Flu. Not even close.

We can’t control what happens to us. But we can control how we respond. And boy howdy, was our response this time around crazy nuts or what?

“We’re almost there in 3 months with extreme measures being taken.”

1. Maybe those measures are not working, but keep wearing those magical masks and standing those magical 6-feet apart.

2. The 100,000 has been proven to be bogus. The real number is much lower.

3. It’s been a lot longer than three months. Maybe you only heard of it three months ago but the rest of us heard of it last year.

I’m pretty sure my grandmother had the Hong Kong flu. She had just finished her trip around the world. She had a cough that stayed with her for many years that I don’t remember her having before. I was young, but I remember it well. She lived to be 103.

I was in college at the time and I don’t even remember that flu. Didn’t know anyone who had it.

True people are dying faster now from the Wuflu than back then, but you have to remember that the biggest generation, the boomers, were all young an healthy then.

Now boomers are still a huge population and they are older with some having co-morbidities. Back in 68 there were not so many old people for a disease to feed on.

I did 50s, doo-wop in HS from ‘63-’67, and moved on to real good rock ‘n roll in early ‘67, and my vinyl collection also was growing. My Parents had a collection of either 33 rpm or 78 rpm vinyl from the 30s & 40s, and I enjoyed listening to many of those.

Why paint everyone with the same brush.

I was at WS because I had just graduated and almost immediately received my draft notice!

I wanted to enjoy a little fun and freedom .. before I had to go and fight for the freedom of others!

I don’t endorse forced anything on American citizens!

I didn’t go with my friends because I was respectful of my mother and the consequences of disobedience. I didn’t do drugs of any kind, either. But I had no idea the flu was a big deal, and completely unaware of any pandemic then, either.

Some people get sick and some people die. Been like that since the very first murder ever comitted.

What indications?

I've seen .5% which is probably half of Covid.

So you're saying it didn't start in Wuhan?

this is where your reading comprehension needs work

you falsely think it applies to you

the only way it would be me talking about you is if a, you were at woodstock, and b, you’re one of these totalitarian control freaks now

stop reading stuff like its directed personally at you

take that filter off

if you read more carefully you can see you don’t have both criteria to be offended

bt if you are a control freak like fauxci and others, then i am glad you feel attacked
