No one really knows death rate.
We don't know how many are asymptomatic cases there are. Testing is showing increasing numbers who have it and are not sick, and that will bring the death rate down, eventually, not immediately.
On the other side, Worldmeters looks at known closed Covid-19 cases, where a person who has already had covid-19 has recovered or died. In that case, that death rate is currently 15%. World wide excess deaths are way up, suggesting Covid-19 deaths are being under counted.
People are not going to tolerate losing their jobs, their kids future, or starving over a disease. It is past time to start reopening in a controlled way like Wecht says. Only lets admit there is a real risk involved instead of pretending otherwise.
The high death toll in China and Italy seemed all too likely to be repeated in the US. And it was, in New York, due to bungling by state officials.
I’ve been saying something similar on FB. In the beginning when it looked like this was going to be a much bigger deal by the bad models used; it made sense to lockdown to buy some time to figure this thing out. Now, 2 months later, it’s a joke to stay locked down for the general public.
However I believe we should be putting resources into all nursing homes and adult day care center for the elderly for masks, gloves, hazmat coveralls, more changes of sheets and more frequent washing of clothes. I also believe every single person in the high risk groups due to age or pre-existing condition should be supplied with the 3 drug cocktail to begin taking at the first sign of illness even if it isn’t the covid just as a good precaution unless they are in the very small group that doesn’t tolerate one or more of the drugs.
In addition I would strongly recommend (for the high risk folks) to be taking Vitamin C, Zinc, Quercitin, Resveratrol, and other good immune system boosters so their system is the best it can be if attacked by this virus.
Dont forget Vitamin D.
