But while journalists with job security keep trying to depict lockdown protesters as Grandma killers and not people who have lost their livelihood and are hitting food banks for the first time while just wanting to return to work, its with a mixed sympathy that we hear about journalism jobs disappearing during the recession.

(BuzzFeed News senior reporter Venessa Wong) "Journalists laid off today will likely be unemployed for months and likely, by necessity, have to find employment in other fields. A lay-off now would effectively end a career in journalism. We have to save jobs."

Learn to code.
There are people practicing actual journalism? Who knew?
#LearnToBlog
I wouldn’t trust them to sort sewage in New York City.
Learn to code. Call Dad regarding trust fund.
Maybe if they actually journalism-ed, this wouldn’t be happening to them
They can always go to wok for Left wing PACs bussing around voter frauds.
UPS and Amazon are hiring.
Some good from COVID-19.
“...have to find employment in other fields...”
Definitely hard. What field requires the person to not have integrity, honesty, morals, professionalism, character, etc. They are going to become lawyers?
If the work they do is so important, one, how can the paper afford to let them go, and two, how can it be career ending if what they do is so important?
Lots of people who know how to code are unemployed right now. So I don’t think thats going to help them.
Perhaps dishwasher is more there level anyway.
Even small market local TV reporters and other local news media personalities are mostly ignorant, arrogant creepy communists.
Good riddance.
I would say a fired “journalist” is well suited to continue their chosen line of work - slinging garbage. Perhaps a mob run trash company is hiring - that way, the “journalist” will feel right at home with a minimum of disruption to their life.
Wow there really is a silver lining!
Our local paper has ‘temporarily’ cut back publishing an actual paper from 6 days/week to three. The sports section is kind of sad. Teams’ coaches’ future plans and stories on players who haven’t played a game for months. Their ‘online’ paper pretty much previews what will be in the next day’s actual paper, but it also asks for not only subscriptions but donations as well.
I don’t think it will end well for them.
The reason they're reporters is that they were too lazy to become lawyers...
Try a temp agency. There’s a toilet that needs cleaning somewhere, or a floor that needs swept. Though, you “journalists” might be too dumb and clumsy even for that.
they could always write gags for Jimmy Kimmel
