Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool sports, posted a rant about coronavirus lockdowns on Twitter yesterday which has already been viewed more than 3 million times. You may not agree with everything he says here but he does make a solid point about the way the goal has subtly shifted over the past 5-6 weeks.
“What the **** [ed] is going on? When did this become flatten the curve, flatten the curve, flatten the curve to we have to find a cure or everyone’s going to die?” he said to open the rant. He continued, “Like Fauci. Seems like a nice enough dude. I’ve always been, oh he’s—no agenda. Looks like he could be maybe the grandfather in Wedding Crashers. Gets in front of the Senate he’s like ‘If we reopen the country too quick everyone’s dead.’ Where’d that come from?

Two thoughts come immediately to mind: “Game? It was never meant to be a game! Never!” and “They’ll keep changing the rules until we’re all dead.”
And that’s what we’re looking at in way too many parts of the country. The only thing we’ve got going for us, right now, is we’ve got our own superstar in President Trump, so I’m not entirely pessimistic how this all ends. But getting there is going to be a bloody mess.
Two step process:
1) Businesses re-open. You want a job? Go back to work. You don’t want to go back to work? You don’t get money.
2) People go back to shopping and eating. You don’t want to go shopping? Fine, stay home.
Some people will get sick, Most will recover.
Frankly, I think the curve flattened all by itself and had nothing to do with all this lockdown...just a typical rise and fall of a virus type illness.
We really need to re-open the schools before your step 1. Women just aren’t going to go back to work if their kids are still stuck at home.
Open the schools and tell everyone that all the kids who don’t show up fail and can get held back. Then continue with re-opening businesses, etc.

Dave is a local hero in the Boston area. He started Bar Stool Sports as a blog site working out of his condo. It built up completely on word of mouth. He sold it a few years back to an entertainment company for somewhere between $8-12 million dollars. I think it is now worth several times that.
He is a self described SMUT PEDDLER(Dave’s words).
They have running features like “Grading the Latest Sex School Teacher”. Women school teachers that get arrested for having sex with their students.
Another daily feature under the PICS heading are Local and Instagram SMOKE SHOWS. These are pictures of young women scantily dressed. Most are Instagram models. Some are just local girls who send in their own pictures.
Another reoccurring feature is Dave’s critique of NYC metro and Boston metro PIZZA PARLORS. Yo know, where to get a good slice.
He is all in on anything Boston Sports. With nothing going on(No Sports), their numbers must be down. They have been the go to website for Boston & NYC & Chicago sporting news for the last several years.

You want a job? Go back to work. You don’t want to go back to work? You don’t get money.
What about people who are not of retirement age but have pre-existing conditions? Some kind of provision needs to be made for them.
People go back to shopping and eating.
Sadly it is not that simple. Only 20% of Americans said they would return to normal activities as soon as the shutdown was lifted in their state, compared to 70% who said they would wait and see and 10% who said they planned to self-quarantine indefinitely. How many businesses can remain open with only 20% of their customer base? Many businesses will fail and many Americans will lose their jobs, shutdown or no shutdown.
