Donald Trump has lead the world in placing the emphasis on getting the economy going in the pandemic situation.

He channels the spirit of Republican America when he says that the country is not built to shut down. While the high death toll is not a good looking statistic, the reality is that any nation with a high death toll is probably way ahead in the race to get herd immunity.

In the political context of Australia, the closest thing to Donald Trump’s priorities is the approach of the Prime Minister Scott Morrison.

He has been extremely vocal in calling for a proper investigation of what happened in Wuhan and China is now retaliating with action to reduce Australian beef and barley sales to China. Morrison responds to this by saying “We will never trade away our values.”

At the other end of the political spectrum in Australia is the guy known as Dictator Dan, the socialist left premier of Victoria Daniel Andrews.

So we can see 85 year olds with lung disease and dementia die from the virus or we can see 45 year olds die from suicide,alcoholism,drug abuse after having seen their lives collapse with an unemployment rate of 15...20...25%.

Nobody chooses to die of COVID-19, but everyone who dies of suicide, alcoholism or drug abuse makes that choice.

Both ignorant and untrue. There is no evidence so far that there is any long lasting immunity from having contracted the virus. Furthermore, getting herd immunity by letting the virus kill off the more vulnerable is flat out stupid. Why even bother with health care at all, then? Let all the diseases run amok and the handful of us left can marvel at our superior genetics or something. While a bunch of Chinese guys round us up for their slave factories. Brilliant!

Herd immunity is best achieved by vaccination, without allowing the virus to crash our health care system in the meantime.
