A newly introduced bill aims to force colleges and universities with endowments valued at $10 billion or more to spend some of their own money on coronavirus-related financial assistance for students before they accept federal aid. Introduced April 22 by Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, the bill has gained steam, picking up Republican cosponsors in recent days, including Tennessees Marsha Blackburn, Floridas Marco Rubio and Arizonas Martha McSally.

It should read any aid. (There is only ONE college that would not be affected.)
Makes more sense.
Not that the legislation has a ghost of a chance of passing.
Too bad we cant bring the 10th Amendment to bear to stop the federal funding of education. Imagine all the sociology programs and Left wing indoctrination that might have to shut down without free money?
Marsha Blackburn graduated from Mississippi State, who probably has an endowment of a large camper home. Still, it shows that Mississippi State people make superior politicians than Ole Miss people (Trent Lott, Thad Cochran, James Eastland, Theodore Bilbo).
OOOOPS - almost forgot the raise the sarcasm flag here.
Yet, U.S. students are saddled with over a trillion dollars in college loans.
On campus learning should be reduced by at least 80 %. The laboratory sciences would be the natural exclusion.
Universities have priced themselves out of existence.
On-line learning is the new paradigm.
Mutt, your dog-tags are rattling. : )
Ten billion?
Thats’ waaaaaaaaayyyyy too much
Let them eat ice cream
YES!

good idea
“On campus learning should be reduced by at least 80 %. “
That’s what I did at Stanford 2 WAYS: my senior year, our forward-thinking dean didnt want us in the classroom for every Business Management grad student at senior class. They wanted us interning and all practical stuff were taught for 3 years prior..why stay in the stupid classroom? Class over.
The 2nd way was that for tuition cash, I worked for a madam in an escort service and whose husband owned a strip club. My perception of accounting and business operations got clearer in a way with “real world” experience.
That’s an amazing parallel to my own experience.
I learned accounting as a bookkeeper for a famous New Orleans crime syndicate.
Forget fraternity keg parties. I had my pick of young ladies from Venice and Salerno. : )
Yet, U.S. students are saddled with over a trillion dollars in college loans.”
A obscenity and the biggest failure of my generation to let this get out of control.
Mortgage lenders who made shady loans that borrowers couldn’t pay back were penalized.
Financial aid counselors should be locked up.
Sounds too sensible to have any chance at becoming law. Hope I’m wrong.
