Reporters Stand Ground After White House Tried to Move CNN to Back Row in Briefing Room By Kristinn Taylor Published April 24, 2020 at 5:28pm 1041 Comments Share (594) Tweet Email Shortly before the start of Fridays coronavirus task force briefing, the White House tried to move a CNN reporter from their assigned seat in the front row to the rear of the Brady Briefing Room, prompting a revolt by reporters who made the administration back down.
CNNs Kaitlan Collins was told to swap seats with print pooler Chris Johnson with the Washington Blade. The White House Correspondents Association assigns seats and access to reporters. Over the years, the Trump administration has tried to assert control over who attends the briefings with mixed results. Most recently, the administration intervened to bring OANN reporter Chanel Rion to stand in the back of the room after the WHCA tried to bar her from the room.
Tweets from reporters:
OANNs Alex Salvi: NEW: The White House has told the print pooler to switch seats with CNN in the press briefing roommoving the network to the back row.

And turn up the heat in the room about 15 degrees.
1000 per cent agree!!!!,
Just be there....talk to your base.....
....and leave!!!!
love it!
It was yesterday
No briefing today.....just a caustic Twitter..(& no I dont blame him)
Press briefings in the future should just be a statement by the President and no follow up questions, and if that’s not enough, just give the press a copy of the statement and walk out.
They have no “right” to be there.
yup, either no more daily briefing or no more reporters in the wh.
my preference is no more reporters in the wh.
if the president’s one of their own, its a love fest verbal masturbation ego stroking, and if its a republican, its the two minutes hate.
Of course, Im tempted [to accept the mini-bills, but] if theres no political heat, if there is no television story on it, then nothing happens.
Why give them chairs?
The organizations that reported extensively on the Russiagate and kept reporting that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians for Donald Trump to become President and have not formally apologized and named their anonymous sources must be escorted out and not allowed because they have demonstrated that they are not news organizations but belong to the Goebeles Propaganda machine.
That sounds perfect for a dictator.
Surely, youre not saying Trump cant handle these people, are you?
Could chairs be arranged in a semicircle so there is no front and back ?
The WH may have to allow them in, but can’t DJT decide who he calls on? Just ignore the really obnoxious ones?
He looks weak. He cant handle these mental midgets?
Absolutely. And deal with the consequences for dodging tough questioners.
They can redesign the room to get 27 ft. separation instead of 6 (”studies show’ that aerosol droplets can travel that far).
Then 3 “reporters” can fit at a time. The others can eat a bag of d*******s.
How is it “perfect for a dictator”?
The CITIZENS, via the web, would be empowered to ask questions of their government directly. That is far more accountability and transparency than what we have now. What this would do is reduce the power of an un-elected body (the press) to dictate and manage the new cycle to presenting only the view that the press wants people to hear.
As I posted, the White House is OUR house. We should have an uprising and demand that the press organization be dissolved. Our house, and we don’t want them in OUR house.
Why can’t Trump just have a daily “meeting” with a few select reporters in the oval office and let them bring in their cameras and answer questions they might have. Just call it a “meeting” or something. Not a press conference. Surely the President of the United States can do that and doesn’t answer to some LEFT wing something called a correspondents association or whatever joke it is.
