The Survival Of Representative Democracies
DonSpies.US ^ | Monday April 20th, 2020 | Don Spies

Posted on 04/21/2020 2:32:53 PM PDT by DonSpies.US

The United States of America was founded to free the inhabitants of the 13 original colonies from England and the tyranny of a distant king, George III. Thus we are loath to restrict the actions of other individuals unless we perceive a threat to the freedom of others in those actions. My question is as follows, "Is there a point at which a citizens ignorance of the principles of government would prohibit their voting in elections ?"

The Founding Fathers never foresaw the emergence of a traitorous press and the damage it would do to this country.

How exactly does anything you write belong in “News”?
Are you some kind of special?

Who the hell do you think you are?

In America today, apparently NOTHING prevents ANYONE from voting in any election...even if dead, non citizen, underage, and multiple times.

Our form of government is a Constitutional Republic, not a Representative Democracy. Nor are we a Democratic Republic. Have you bothered to read the Federalist Papers and the Constitutional Convention debates of 1787?

It’s all there in black & white.

Today’s politicians use the U.S. Treasury as their personal campaign slush fund and make government funded ( read that as taxpayer funded ) promises to their constituents.

"Is there a point at which a citizens ignorance of the principles of government would prohibit their voting in elections?"

Not in our constitution. Sorry, no firestorm.

If you're asking if we should have restrictions on who can vote based on qualifications, the founders covered a lot of that ground in forming the constitution.

The original restrictions have been diluted over the years.

You should read some history. I'm sure you'd find it enlightening.

The Founding Fathers used the ownership of property as a “measure of understanding”. That wouldn’t work in today’s world, but is there something that might ?

I believe the topic category reads “news/activism”. I am trying to actively promote critical thought regarding the education of today’s voters.

That’s exactly where those $1,200.00 stimulus checks are coming from and that’s exactly where that six months of $2,000.00 per month basic income checks will come from. Your grandkids and great-grandkids will paying it of for decades.

Support your assertion with evidence and documentation, not just “we are BOTH.” Your answer is nothing but personal postulate.

The Founding Fathers gave us the ability to amend our Constitution and if we sit back and watch our republic and freedoms be destroyed . . . SHAME ON US ! ! !

The Founding Fathers never foresaw the emergence of a traitorous press

What they never foresaw was allowing, in fact encouraging, everyone to vote.

THAT is the problem. DEMOCRACY is the problem.

The Founders knew democract was an evil from the pits of Hell. They did what they could to protect us from it, but they failed.

And now, we live with the consequences.
