Is President Trump’s “Opening Up America Again” announcement one of the most courageous presidential decisions ever?

Will Americans back it and accept the possibility of increased risk of death as a necessary sacrifice for the nation?

“...Will Americans back it and accept the possibility of increased risk of death...”

If old folks (like myself) go about things carefully, I don’t think there will be a significant increase in deaths...

I think it’s pretty important . Most politicians seem to be ok with screwing everything up. I just wonder what this would be like under Hillary. I guarantee this would have been ignored like swine flu was under Obama and the media would have ignored it.

Nope.
Not if what I read earlier is correct.
We need a far more aggressive opening up. strategy

He’s put the ball in the court of the governors.

Their incompetence and/or fascist tendencies will now be on full display.

I think his announcement was perfectly balanced with the Fed providing guidelines and input and the governors charged with the decision when it comes to their individual states and allowing them the granularity to even have different rules for different counties. What will make this really perfect after this is under control is to announce he is imposing 100% tariffs on all imports from China and decouples out economy from their thieving parasitic economy. Hopefully the rest of the West follows our lead and crashes out worst enemy’s economy

It would have been 3-4 weeks ago. I’m not a sycophant, and I don’t do cult of personalities.
Trump listened to the wrong people. Big mistake. The nation need to be opened yesterday.

I agree.

It is timid and tentative. Defers too much to the wonks. Does not move fast enough to save the economy.

Trump has let the coronavirus death of his friend in New York affect him too much.

There will be civil unrest. And then they’ll go back to the drawing board.

It’s really passing the buck and the blame off to the governors. Notice how Trump trolled the press and dems. He has the “I am the king” presser that sets the stooges and dems off for two days promoting what turns out to be his policy. It was a no win situation trying to force the dem governors to acquiesce to allowing Trump to make the call for their states. Trump can’t now be blamed for NYC’s future deaths or NYC’s dying economy, its Cuomo’s decision. The citizens of these states, watching red staters get back to their lives, will put enough pressure on the governors to open their states.

Master stroke by Trump. The ball is in the governors’ court. There are now gates/criteria that can be used against the governors if they don’t open their states. The pressure will be overwhelming for some of these Dems who have instituted draconian measures.

He threw restaurant and hospitality industries to the wolves. CDC will put them out of business. It used to be left up to the individual to decide risk. Now the CDC will decide for you.

If you were President Trump right now, what exactly would you do differently?

Honestly -- I think he did: (1) exactly what I expected him to do, and (2) exactly what he was empowered to do.

Trump is being 100% consistent here. He allowed the governors to shut their own states down, and he’s allowing them to open them up on their own terms.
