Heres a shocker: The U.S. crude death rate (mortality from all causes) is the lowest its been since the CDC has been tracking deaths attributed to the flu, pneumonia and all causes.
The drunks dont have anywhere to go. Just have the packey / winery deliver to the house.
Careful: data is incomplete for a while. ( The % complete is shown, though_
So let’s think this through: Cancer therapies suspended. They pretty much kill all living things, in the hopes the cancer dies first. Makes sense that suspending the cancer therapies postpones cancer deaths, but makes eventual cancer deaths go up even more.
Are we seeing unaccounted-for delays from nursing homes, private homes, etc.?
Reduced pedestrian deaths, car accidents, crime victims would make sense.
Would suicide rates go down? They work in strange ways. Oppressed groups experience less suicide. Would people who feel outcast feel more “normal”? Would survivor mentality kick in better?
It's been an interesting four or five weeks.
I was hoping that the President would comment on numbers like this that are getting into the news. They justify getting back to normal sooner, rather than later. Perhaps he hasn’t seen them yet, or he doesn’t think the time is ripe.
A very large scale social experiment.
Very.
Two main issues here.
(1) Much lower accidental deaths, which usually run at 3,000+ per week.
(2) The CDC does not count a death until they get an official death certificate. Most likely, the Stay-at-Home orders have played havoc with normal reporting procedures from state and local governments.
Methinks its replete with incomplete data and pie in the sky conclusions.jus’ sayin’.
Hmm, it would be interesting to see a break down of the data. No doubt, decreased accidents and infectious disease are the major drivers of that trend. The measures taken against Covid-19 are effective against any respiratory illness. And people staying at home are less likely to have accidents.
We sold a house recently. This week we went to settlement. The settlement officer showed us a hospital visible from the conference room and told us that normally helicopters deliver patients there daily, but he hasn’t seen one in two weeks.
Some causes of death might increase. Drugs seem to be in short supply, and for people dependent on them, it could be bad.
“Would people who feel outcast feel more normal? Would survivor mentality kick in better?”
Yes. Those in survival mode every day (complex post traumatic stress response) are in their norm.
For those interested, Pete Walker’s book Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: From Surviving to Thriving.
Those normies who did not suffer trauma as children will recover quicker. Those who did suffer learn how to quiet the stress response and use it for longer periods depending on length of time in traumatic situation.
I’ve been looking for this data. Thanks!
What we/ the public are still missing ...
Statistics based on age of infected AND the HIPPA protected information as to the underlying medical conditions of those in the younger age brackets that have DIED ?
SOCIETY DEMANDS this become public information about those who died.
Were they LGBT ?
Did they use drugs or have a drug history ?
AIDS ?
HIPPA BE DAMNED.
shutting down bars saves lives?
Yes, locking us up in our homes works to prevent not only COVID-19, but also the flu and common cold. So what? We don’t just want to live, we want to LIVE our lives.
I predicted it!
If it says just one life...Lockdowns save lives!
“Hillary would have handled this better.” — any stupid liberal you can name
