AUSTRIA WILL BEGIN REOPENING

Austria will begin reopening

Austria will lift some of its Wuhan coronavirus related restrictions next week. It will begin by reopening non-essential shops of less than 400 square meters on April 14, and then all shops and malls on May 1. Strict rules about masks, social distancing, and the number of people allowed into a store at any one time will remain in place.

Schools will remain closed until mid-May. Public events are banned until the beginning of June. All of these decisions are subject to change, depending on conditions.

Austria’s prime minister said that his early response to pandemic has enabled the country to begin reopening. Austria instituted its national lockdown on March 16. It was, I believe, one of the first European nations to do so, but not by all that much.

Austria has around 13,000 reported cases of the virus and is adding to that total by about 250 per day. Fewer than 300 Austrians are reported to have died from the virus. Yesterday’s total was 30.

The country’s logarithmic curve of total cases flattened around the beginning of April, but has not yet moved downwards. The number of currently infected people in Austria is declining, though. It peaked at around 9,300 on April 3. As of yesterday, April 6, the number was 8,300.

The fact that recoveries are now outpacing new cases appears to be the key factor in Austria’s decision. Absent a new wave of cases, the country need not fear that its hospitals will be overwhelmed.

In the U.S. our number of active cases (the currently infected) continues to soar.

So, by April 30th?

(Texas isn’t even supposed to have CV peak, until right around that time.)

From article: The country’s logarithmic curve of total cases flattened around the beginning of April, but has not yet moved downwards.

They'll have to wait a LONG time for the logarithmic (or linear) curve of TOTAL cases to move downwards. Idiot.

Oh no, no, no, no.

Just heard a clip of Dr. Christopher Murray (of the University of Washington) saying his “model” would require us to maintain the shutdown until the death rate falls to “0.3 deaths per million people per day”, which he then said would be about 60 deaths per day in the US. He projects that this would occur around the first week of June.

The math doesn’t seem to work to me. 0.3 deaths per million would be around 100 per day. Furthermore, the US can’t stay shut down until then.

Life has inherent risks, and we’re going to have to suck it up and go forward, realizing that people may be dying of covid-19 for the rest of human history. We must save what’s left of our economy.

I agree with some of this strategy. If we just “go back to normal” we’ll only see a new avalanche of CV cases and have to go back to lock down.

Masks are imperative, social distancing too - probably the two biggest variables.

Should we reopen sports with “limited” seating? Maybe.

Buffet restaurants are probably doomed.

Hannity just asked VP Pence if the country would be opened up, by May 1st....

...VP said he ‘wouldn’t speculate on a date’

:-(

It’s going to be a staggered reopening, not everywhere at once. Might even be by county. You can’t put a date on that.

That’s what I’m starting to think.

The ‘stay-at-home’ orders have been pretty staggered (differing measures/across country), so it makes sense that the re-openings would be, too.

If I see Dr Death Ezekiel Emmanuel (Fox shows keep replaying him) say ONE more time, that we won’t be able to reopen anything until EVERY American has been tested and/or vaccinated, I will barf.

“Strict rules about masks, social distancing, and the number of people allowed into a store at any one time will remain in place”

So their reopening will in several ways be stricter than our shut down.

It’s going to be a gradual opening. It should be months before we open up our borders as long as the virus is active on the globe.
