Sweden has the lowest population density of any country in Europe. It's got the most relaxed policies of any country. It has closed universities and high schools, but kept other schools open. It's banned gatherings of more than 50. But allowed businesses to remain open.

Experts criticise Swedish government for failing to prevent COVID-19 spread

I don't know much about Brazil's response. I see they requested emergency medical equipment from China. And I see they are doing an unemployment stipend.

Brazil Congress Readies Virus Budget as Bolsonaro Response Lags"

I say we watch them. But even so, we shouldn't measure the success only in economic terms, loss of life, impacts to quality of life from last health damage, hospital bills, etc, should all be considered.

I don't even watch the daily tedious and over-long briefings any more. Who the hell can absorb two hour or longer of statistics, statistics, arcs and curves, mutual congratulations, endless inside medical chat, the pros and cons about ventilators, masks, gloves, blah, blah.

What we deplorables out here on the local level REALLY want to know is "where's da toilet paper!", "where's da meat?"......"where's any trucks bringing any fresh vegetables into our food stores, tell us if it's because there's no drivers or whatever !"....tell us why there's no fresh fruit, no fresh meat, no milk, no butter, no eggs, no baby wipes (and when it may be coming).........all this missing local info is what's important to us stuck in our homes !

Our local TV station puts full weather on about every 19 minutes (it's their schtick)....over and over, the weather.....we don't need weather every 19 minutes.....yet they still DO NOT let us know regularly how our local counties and towns and stores and other things are being affected by the shortages, it's just like an afterthought with them.

I'm so tired of the blathering mouths on TV that tell us what THEY'RE interested in, not us.

I'm just tuned out of the incessant chattering and nattering of the TV talking heads, a good portion of them who talk so fast you can't understand them at all, anyhow.

All I can say is thank God for "Cops", "Live PD"....and the remote's "change channels" button ! Catching bad guys is good therapy and makes one feel good!

“Am I missing something? Where is the republican opposition to any of this? They seem to be calling the same shots.

Yes you are. Andy Biggs has started asking tough questions “today. Send him a note of support on twitter or to his office.

Economic terms are critical - eggheads in government have determined that the average American life should be considered to be worth 9 million dollars in spending. Do you disagree? Because 9 million funds a lot of life saving/preserving things and I have no reason to ignore this analysis. This analysis is only considered cold and uncaring to those who inappropriately value the life of the victim in front of you over the unseen victim in the future.

At one point, 10,000 was record breaking and I don’t remember it being a time of economic hardship.

We’ll survive whatever happens economically, just like my parents did during the Great Depression.

Herd immunity is the only one that is reasonable - therefore we need to spread this virus to as many healthy people as possible.

Very idealistic, but how do you propose doing that without infecting high risk people anyways?

Or are they just collateral damage to you?

For example, if the Dow should shoot back up to 26,000 next week (very unlikely), does that mean we are winning? And should the Dow drop more (likely), does that mean we are losing?” Yes and Yes because it is the only thing close to reflective to what the health of our economy.

So the ultimate measure of success is money, not human lives?

It’s staggering what this crisis has revealed about people’s priorities.

Those elderly and sick people who get inadvertently infected due to aggressive pursuit of her immunity....you asked if they are collateral damage to me...YES they are.

Are the suicides, domestic murders, cancer deaths due to unfunded research, weakened national security, all due to economic collapse from excessive lockdown collateral damage to you?

Don’t try to pull on heartstrings in your arguments with me? I will flip it around on you every time.

Where are you getting $9 million from?

If I take the $2 Trillion fiscal package, some of which is loans and divide it by 320 million Americans I get $6,250/person.

I’m not considering the Federal Reserve’s monetary actions, because the Federal Reserve has the ability to eventually reverse those. And they will probably end up making a profit on them which will go to the treasury.

Oh I see, I didn’t understand.
I thought you were saying the government would spend $9 million a person. But they are saying a person is worth $9 million.

Strickly in earnings power, the median wage is $48,672. Let’s round that to $50k and multiple it by 50 years of work. That’s $2,500,000. Assuming they create value in excess of what they earn, then maybe $5,000,000.

But then they reproduce too. So in addition to their own earnings, they produce 2.1 additional future wage earners. So throw in another $2,000,000 as a commission.

That brings us to $7,000,000.

Another way of approaching it is to take GNP of $20 trillion a year * 50 years = 1,000 Trillion = 1 quadrillion. 1 quadrillion / 320 million people = $3,125,000.

Seems like they are a little high in terms of economic value.

I don’t know how you use a number like that. It’s not like the government is saying we can spend up to $9 million * 320 million people.

And you CANNOT prove that those are going to happen for sure.

It’s pure speculation and wishful thinking to justify your callousness.

Since you are so willing to take the lives of those you seem to deem useless as collateral damage, don’t even try to pretend that you have enough of the milk of human kindness in your veins to care about suicides, murder, or cancer deaths.

Because you are failing miserably.

Anyone who does not care about the lives lost due to the virus, is never going to be able to convince someone that they care about other lives.

Don’t waste your time pretending.

Please do waste your time pretending, if that is what this is.

It is much more informative and heartening than listening to droopy lefty soccer moms who want to control the world in every way the Leftist gubment will allow them to.

Prove the deaths from a bad economy would be more than from the virus.

I’ll wait.
