Was Woodrow Wilson a great wartime leader or a globalist disaster?

Today is the 103rd anniversary of Woodrow Wilson’s speech to congress calling for a declaration of war on Germany.

https://freedom-demokrasi-and-civilised-humanity.com/2020/04/02/woodrow-wilson-was-he-a-father-of-the-greatest-generation-or-globalist-disaster/

Why has this feature of the American system – congressional declaration of war as opposed to authorisation of military force – disappeared? Which method worked better?

Is the rejection of the Democrats by the people at the elections of 2020 a fair judgement on Wilson’s presidency?

Who were the fathers of The Greatest Generation?

He got us involved in a war that had nothing to do with America. He ran America as an authoritarian police state. The draft was outlawed after the civil war with the 13th amendment.
He got around that by claiming that with a declaration of war, the entire nation had “volunteered” for duty and selective service was merely picking from a pool of volunteers.

The evil acts he pushed onto American life included propaganda, and a reign of terror over German Americans who had been in the country since before the revolution.
Then he was a virulent racist, firing all blacks from civil service. He was an advocate of the KKK and screened Birth of a Nation in the White House.

He openly said the Constitution was dated and we should not be restricted by it.
He had no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

> Saddam tried to kill his daddy. <

True. But if that was really W’s main reason for invading Iraq, then W is a war criminal. And the Congressmen of that time would be accomplices before the fact.

When the United States declared war on Germany in April 1917, President Woodrow Wilson faced a reluctant nation. Wilson had, after all, won his reelection in 1916 with the slogan, “He kept us out of the war.” To convince Americans that going to war in Europe was necessary, Wilson created the Committee on Public Information (CPI), to focus on promoting the war effort.

To head up the committee, Wilson appointed a brilliant political public relations man, George Creel. As head of the CPI, Creel was in charge of censorship as well as flag-waving, but he quickly passed the censor’s job to Postmaster General Albert S. Burleson.

Goebbels later on admitted that he learned most of his tactics from looking at what Creel did.

I think Wilson and Obama are neck and neck for the worst ever.

I ranked LBJ second in my earlier list posted above because he started the Great Society, the Vietnam war, the War on Poverty, and allowed the invasion of the US by untold millions of third world gimmigrants - all massive failures. LBJ's guns-and-butter policies directly led to Nixon's breaking the link between the USD and gold.

Don't forget Nixon. His love affair with china fathered the reason for the mess we are in today.

I was dead set against Nixon's approach to Red China from the start. He should have left the Chicoms to stew in "angry isolation," as he termed it.

Yep, that is also my opinion.

Lyndon Johnson and BO tried really hard but they fell short by a great bit. Carter is an dishonorable mention.

Dunno about that...Wilson didn’t have allies like Hussein, Hitlery, Omar, and AOC.

An intriguing answer. Thank you. But I don’t understand.

What impact do the different methods of starting war have on the use or otherwise of nuclear weapons?

Nothing W. did in Iraq can’t be laid on his father and bill Clinton.

He inherited a war placed on pause rather than ended.

Care to explain how a constitutional amendment can be unconstitutional?

1) It was never ratified, 2) even laws (by the books) can be perverted.

As someone who grew up doing duck and cover drill in elementary school, the answer is simple; world leaders were terrified any formal declaration of war would quickly escalate to nuclear exchanges.

As no one wanted to risk Mutually Assured Destruction, they instead engaged in “conflicts”, where thousands of combatants were sacrificed as pawns in a global chess match.

Nowadays, there’s too much money to be made in “conflicts” to risk a formal war that might finally turn off the military-industrial spigot.

and Jill Biden dedicated her book to his wife. Wonder if Wilson’s wife knew he had an affair (Based on an earlier post). I had not known that. You have to wonder why both wives stayed with with their spouses.

Sin leads to greater sin.

Power is a dangerous drug.
