China has reacted angrily after US President Donald Trump referred to the coronavirus as “Chinese Virus”.
A foreign ministry spokesman warned the US should “take care of its own business” before stigmatizing China.
The first cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.
If Obama labeled this virus as “Chinese Virus” it would have been fine but this is President Trump and this was labeled as racist.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned against linking the virus to any particular area or group, due to the risk of stigmatization.
However, a number of US administration officials have referred to it as the Chinese virus. Meanwhile, Mr Pompeo has repeatedly referred to the “Wuhan virus”.
Now there is a White House petition that wants to rename the Novel Coronavirus to CCPVirus.
The White House Petition states:
President Trump is correct to attribute the origin of the novel coronavirus pandemic to China.
Looking more closely, it’s China’s ruling Communist Party (CCP) that has sickened Chinese people – and by extension the world. It’s the totalitarian nature and callous dishonesty of the Chinese Communist Party that has brought about this public health catastrophe
The novel coronavirus should, therefore, be called the “CCP virus” to accurately reflect its origin.
Let’s start with pinpointing the root cause of the suffering we have seen.
Let’s start calling the novel coronavirus the CCP virus.
In the meantime, Jennifer Zeng who is a mainland Chinese-born human rights activist re-tweeted a video in which is explained that more and more Chinese resident supports this idea.

The Chinese are wonderful people, and Americans have no problem with them whatsoever. It is the CCP alone that we despise, for they are liars and deceivers, and persecute their own people.

Pretty much spells it out.
So, we’re having a branding discussion about a virus? Sure, why not - everything else has pretty much gone stark f’n crazy. Don’t forget the Registered and TM symbols...
ChiCom flu or virus works for me. Most people won’t get what CCP stands for, then again, many people are too young to have heard the term ChiCom either. I told my daughter we don’t want to upset people in Formosa. Yeah, that went in one year and out the other.
ccpvirus is a fitting name, like ccp itself, it will infiltrate everywhere and try to kill the host. chinese culture was killed by ccp. the traces of true culture can be found in Korea (ming dynasty), Japan (tang dynasty), hk/taiwan
It is a good idea. WE get to call the virus what WE want.
Not “the experts”
Certainly not China.
I think it’s a non starter. One example is Kentucky Fried Chicken changed their name to KFC years ago so people would forget about the word “Fried”, and it worked.
