Based on these numbers, the fatality rate in the U.S. is 1.744%

Still the wrong way to calculate. Fatality/case only shows the minimum possible for known cases. During an outbreak it drops when diseases spread quickly, and rises dramatically when the spread is brought under control.

Here’s an example where it is thought that testing was sufficiently comprehensive:

South Korea has been lauded for weeks for its comprehensive testing. In the early stages their death/cases rate was very low as well. Then it stabilized at around 0.4% as it turned the corner at the beginning of March.

With relatively few new cases that death rate has continued to creep up.

Date cases dead rec death/cases
3/22 8897 104 2909 1.12%
3/23 8961 111 3166 1.24%
3/24 9037 120 3507 1.33%
3/25 9137 126 3730 1.38%
3/26 9241 131 4144 1.42%
3/27 9332 139 4528 1.49%
3/28 9478 144 4811 1.52%
3/29 9583 152 5033 1.59%
Unresolved is at 46% now, which is far lower than anyplace else other than China.

Convergence of death/resolved arc and death/case looks like it will be at about 2.2% if treatments do not further change.

South Korea appears to have successfully limited the spread to a relatively small number, and there do not appear to be any vast unknown-infected, as there is only a small spread rate.

if we look at the figures from Italy, 99% of the coronavirus dead had other diseases like heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc,

Per that study, it included high blood pressure. Any. Ever.

That includes roughly a third of the US adult population.

At what point (age) do you think “old” people are not worth valuing? Do you agree with the architects of Obamacare?

Ok, I use to like old people. Now I see the world is supposed to bend over back wards, commit economic suicide, so they can enjoy the last years of their lives thoughtlessly. Old people can't/refuse to assume any risk here at all and self isolate. They are being so selfish it is embarrassing. Don't expect grand children to forget this so quickly....

Of those who test positive for the disease in the hot spot of Doghtery, Lee, Sumter counties SW GA, 8% have died. In all the rest of GA, only 2.5% of those who tested positive died.
I apologize. Yesterday I compared the deaths of those who tested positive in SW GA to the deaths of all who were tested in GA. Only 21.4% of those tested in GA tested positive.
So my denominators were apples and oranges. Yesterday my deonominator was almost 5 times higher than it should have been for all of GA. That made my percentage for all of GA much lower than reality.

Outside of the SW GA hot spot, the death rate is 2.5% in GA compared to 8% inside the SW GA hot spot and that is now a percentage of those who tested positive in both percentages.

A third of the US population is not average age over 79, like the Coronavirus dead in Italy though.

I used to respect the elderly. Now I see the end of life is nothing but reverting to selfish little scared boys and girls. You all can’t seem to help it. I will probably be the same. My God I may jump before I get really old....

Since the reliable tests were not available until about 3-24, most of the numbers are bogus. Many false positives and false negatives were the result of earlier testing.

The CDC didn’t even provide a reliable test until 3-11 with 3-17 before 5 manufacturers said they would be ready.

Add this to the mix: a man drops dead from a heart attack as a result of heart disease, but because they found COVID-19 antibodies during the autopsy, he’s now listed as a COVID-19 death, and not heat attack.

Ok, I use to like old people......They are being so selfish it is embarrassing. Don't expect grand children to forget this so quickly.... "

Perfect, in the sense of candid revelation.

I was just viewing some data from Wuhan, it appears the biggest spike in mortality happens at.....wait for it....45 years of age.

But your post speaks for itself. The post-WWII "Greatest Generation" didn't kick their parents to the curb when they returned from the war. They didn't (and I wouldn't) expect the government to take care of my parents for me while I moved away from them, and then expect to come back for their funerals, and especially to collect an inheritance and get the proceeds from selling their belongings, and from selling their vacant house.

But today we see it all the time. The Dr. Spock generation and later seem annoyed by the idea that they might have to take care of the people that raised them, when they reach old age. The very idea is insulting! Put 'em in a nursing home! Have them put the house in my name so the government doesn't get the money for the nursing home costs! They're not my responsibility! ....say the spoiled hipsters.

"They are so selfish" is, in itself, an anti-social statement. You are no better than Zeke Emanuel. You are a Democrat, a narcissist, and a nihilist. You are unworthy of an inheritance, but it never occurs to you how self-absorbed you are. You are the opposite of noble.

I'm sure when you reach a certain age you will "selfishly" demand compassion from young people, and the handicap seat occupied by the inconsiderate young punk on the bus (likely you, present day).

Yes you will be old and vulnerable someday. G-d, through natural progression has a way of making sure what comes around, goes around.

Perfect! Your true character emerges again.

You couldn’t offer a logical rebuttal, so you use verbal violence through profanity. I understand why you are frustrated — nobody has ever pointed out the deep flaws in your character. You’re frustrated with the realization that my points are irrefutable.

I pity your folks, if they haven’t already died and had their estates raided by their delinquent offspring.

I was called an idiot for suggesting this on facebook.

Most of these type of folks wouldn't know the truth if it hit themselves over the head with a hammer. A boat load of twitter users are the same way. Most of these have grown up with the idea that truth is relative to each person and that there is no such thing as objective truth.

The idea that in a virulent plague we would have to prioritize and ration resources has no meaning to them. Everything revolves around self and how they feel at the moment.

They couldn't find their way out of a paper bag if it came with an Exit sign inside it as instructions to them are optional.

I have fun with them when they pay their mind games with me. OK, I say, if you believe all truth is relative - hold out your wallet and repeat after me - "Help Yourself". The look on their faces is priceless.

When they argue about taking away all guns. I point my finger at them and cock my thumb and say "Bang - Your dead now. I help myself to your wallet (or purse) because all truth is relative". They practically go into shock.

If they start abusing me with words, I say "Stop you horrible vile wicked person - get away from me now!" and I step into their space. Most have never been confronted in their lives and do not know what to do. Most will back away saying "Sorry... Sorry...". A few will tense up to fight. I will not say what I do next.

Yes in their mind even saving one single life is worth shutting down the entire economy. They lead with “What if that person that die was someone in your family”.
