The study accounts for more than a third of all reported cases of the disease. Worldwide, 118,000 people have been diagnosed with the disease so far and 4,200 have died from it.

The study identified very few deaths among people under 40. More than 12,000 people in that age group were infected, but only 26 died. It is unclear if those people had other medical conditions, such as asthma or cancer, that may have made them more vulnerable.

The study found that the chance of dying from COVID-19 clearly increases with age.

There were no reported deaths from COVID-19 in children under 10, and other studies have suggested that children who are infected do not become very sick.

What’s the risk of COVID-19 for a healthy young person?

Don't you know it's un-PC to spread sanity-inducing perspective into things?

And let's not mention that global cases is now about 700K which is 1/50th of the published number of Flu cases just in the USofA.....

But the beat goes on, La de da de de, la de da de da

“Since March 14 deCODE, a subsidiary of the California biotech giant Amgen, has offered a free coronavirus test to any Icelander, sick or healthy, who simply fills out an online form” So who do you think decides to take the test more? Someone with a cold or a nasty sore throat or someone who has no symptoms? I think the sick are more likely to get a test. So extrapolating the infection rate using this information about a free test is unreasonable and produces an infection rate biased high. We need real random testing to find the true infection rate.

True, the test group is self-selected and the stats are not accurate in measuring the entire infected population, or even the self-selected population when there are so many infected that, for a few days, are asymptomatic (but contagious). And the infected population changes rapidly for the same reason.

With only 350,000 people Iceland has fewer people than many of our cities. The ideal approach would be to test everyone, and often, especially those people that are frequently exposed to the public, or work in hospitals. Even then if we had an accurate snapshot of the morbidity, it will likely change as we widely introduce therapies that are effective, such as those the FDA approved that use malaria treatments.

What’s your point?

Because that appears to be a rationalization of “this epidemic isn’t any more serious than the flu” view, that I would expect from the typical narcissistic, nihilistic toilet-licking Spring Breaker, not from a thoughtful or educated person.

The very idea that this virus is somehow less dangerous because kids under 10 don’t die from it.... why do you think schools are shut down then?

Because every human is a vector for this extremely dangerous virus.

Because every human is a vector for this extremely dangerous virus.

The onus is for the elderly and informed who are at risk to figure out how to remain isolated and do it in way as to not demand the destruction the entire society and cause economic chaos . NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND.

Being old is hard, I get that. But deal with this LIKE A DAMNED ADULT AND NOT A SCARED LITTLE GIRL.

“The study” — do you mean the JAMA published study referenced in the LA Times article at the bottom of your post?

It’s not clear.

There is no “study” in the post we are responding to, just an ignorant series of errors posted by some dude with a blog who calls himself “Dan from squirrel hill”.

To 98% of society it is a nuance at best.

The hoax proves it is easy to stir up old people. We should be ashamed. All of the economic and social chaos is so unnecessary....

Tell that to Trump, he’s 73. Or Tony Fauci, the man running our response force, he’s 80.

Now go back to posting those videos of you licking toilets.

So he CDC study that said 214 million would be infected, and 1.7 million would be dead with no intervention is BS?

Do you think Trump is falling for “a hoax”?

Do you think this virus is any more dangerous than the seasonal flu?

At what point (age) do you think “old” people are not worth valuing? Do you agree with the architects of Obamacare?

How much longer, if at all, should the government (federal or state) call for “shelter in place” for nonessential workers and businesses?

Yeah, just ignore everything that is happening in the hospitals. It’s all fake.

My wife is an ER nurse so we know the deaths are real. She deals with it every day and she knows what is the truth and that which is hype. And she absolutely hates the media which is making money hyping fear, hysteria and adding more problems to it than the foolish politicians in an election year making hay of it. She is sick of it.

She would tell you that the hype and fear is causing folks who don't need to go to the hospital and burden the system are going in droves. If they are not turned away that they are likely to catch it or the pneumonia which follows it like deaths stalking horse. This is compounding the problem and eating up hospital beds like you would not believe.

That 90% of people sail through this at home without a problem and think it was the flu or have little to no symptoms at all. She would tell you that COVID-19 loves Smokers and folks who have COPD from Smoking. And she would love for folks to take the HINT AND QUIT SMOKING IMMEDIATELY and She doesn't mean Tobacco only. She means any kind of smoking.

She would tell you that the same folks who should be taking precautions from the flu every year should be be doing it the same for this. Anyone over 65 or has lung issue or immune issues should be exercising, taking recommended vitamins, getting lots of rest, washing your hands with soap (COVID HATES SOAP) and following the recommendations.

She would tell you that the nursing homes are sending in the elderly with it and wishes they had quarantined them at the first hint of this thing and that they quarantine them every spring during the flu season. But she knows that quarantining the elderly like that can kill more from loneliness than the flu ever would.

Does it kill outside the high risk groups, yeah sometimes inexplicably just like the flu. But she would ask you if you are going to shutdown your life every flu season and FAIL TO LIVE. Are you going to FAIL TO LOVE YOUR FREINDS AND FAMILY OVER THE SMALLEST FEARS?? After all a crack in the sidewalk can kill if you trip over it just right. A failure to LIVE BY FAITH AND LOVE THOSE AROUND YOU IS TRAGIC.

Live by Faith instead of fear. Choose you this day whom you will serve. Will you serve the enemy by fear or will you please God by faith; loving those around you?? It really is a choice. CHOOSE LIFE.

o 98% of society it is a nuance at best.

I think you meant "nuisance". But it's not true. Do some more reading.

“I hope you are not “Dan from squirrel hill” because I already have a low opinion of the post without you actually being the poster, promoting his own blog.”

We may have a winner: According to Grundle’s FR bio, “I’m a Ron Paul supporter who was born in 1971 and lives in Pittsburgh, PA.”

The author of the blog that is the source for Grundle’s post is “Daniel Alman (aka Dan from Squirrel Hill)”

Dan Alman: “Daniel Alman was born in 1971, and has spent his entire life so far living in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”

You appear to be defining not-”young” as perhaps over 50. central_va appears to be defining not-young as over 10.

Precisely! Mark Levin discussed this in last night’s show.

In addition, when comparing to death rates of seasonal flu, we’re comparing a virus with NO vaccine (yet) to a virus that has a widely dispensed vaccine. Once we get a vaccine for corona19, the rates should be similar.
