Any FReepers with COVID-19?

I’ve heard a couple today.

Thought it might be good to have a repository of experiences.

Yes, it seems wacky. I’m looking forward to more solid information as this epidemic settles down. Postmortem analysis of the lungs etc.

Interesting. It definitely helped him. Kept his airways open.

I have a CPAP machine that I dont use so going to drag it out and get it ready just in case.

Not sure why sleep apnea puts you more at risk...just seeing Drs say it.

COVID-19 Symptoms from web MD

Lung Disease & Respiratory Health Coronavirus News
WEBMD HEALTH NEWS
Know the Symptoms of COVID-19
By Brenda Goodman, MD

March 10, 2020 — As testing for COVID-19 expands, cases are being picked up across the U.S., confirming what disease experts have predicted: that the virus has been here for some time and is making people sick.

That can make the occasional cough or sneeze suspicious. Is this COVID-19? How would you know if you have it?

The most detailed breakdown of symptoms of the disease comes from a recent World Health Organization analysis of more than 55,000 confirmed cases in China. Here are the most common symptoms and the percentage of people who had them:

Fever: 88%
Dry cough: 68%
Fatigue: 38%
Coughing up sputum, or thick phlegm, from the lungs: 33%
Shortness of breath: 19%
Bone or joint pain: 15%
Sore throat: 14%
Headache: 14%
Chills: 11%
Nausea or vomiting: 5%
Stuffy nose: 5%
Diarrhea: 4%
Coughing up blood: 1%
Swollen eyes: 1%

No where does it mention loss of senses of back ache in particular.

I believe that my husband and I have had it. About three weeks ago we came down with something, a day apart, some similar symptoms, some not.

My own experience has been as follows.
I woke up very tired, thought it was from taking care of my husband the night before. By evening I had a persistent dry cough. Fatigue grew worse, and things started to taste off. (Husband had been flat on the sofa all day). I tried to breath a little steam for the cough - but the steam smelled very nasty, and it felt very painful to inhale it. Like my nose was being slapped sharply. Very weird! When I went to bed my jaw muscles began to ache.
Woke up FLAT. Zero strength/energy, felt ghastly, but no runny nose or anything. I did have stiffness and pain in the muscles in my legs, very slight headache. No appetite. Water tasted funky. I still coughed, but no trouble breathing. Super hard to get out of bed to get to the loo. Muscles in my legs really hurt. Afternoon day 1 I tried to eat soup, tasted weird. Ate a little banana-that tasted fine. Napped most of the day - would wake up yelling. By day 2 I had started a fever (husband never got a fever) and by the end of that day it was 101.5. Normal for me is 97.8. Still flat out, still had pain, wake up yelling, dry cough, slight headache that came and went. No trouble breathing though. Ate only 1/2 serving of oatmeal and a little banana. Again, only the fruit tasted normal. Totally zero strength, could only get up for the loo. Day 3, temp was at 102.1, for the whole day. Stayed flat, didn’t eat anything but a banana, and just water. Sure, I TRIED a cup of coffee, couldn’t get through half of it. Legs didn’t ache as much. Day 4 fever broke, was able to sit up a bit. I think I ate a small meal even though it tasted strange. Coughing picked up, and at one point I have a nasty pain in my stomach for a couple of hours. Day five I felt the croupy type feeling come on in my lungs. (I have mild asthma, and a chronic lung thingy) I did not have trouble breathing in the one sense, but I had a wheezing and hacking going on. Day 6 diarrhea (sorry folks) but able to sit up most of the day. Day 7 - still beat, but no more aches, strength returning, able to have my coffee and eat a little. Food was still nasty. Days 8 & 9 - diarrhea again. Gradually strength getting better. Day 10 bad pain in my stomach again. Bouts of terrible fatigue. By day 12 I was doing much better, still tired. One day fine, next day fatigued. Still get a bit wheezy and struggle to cough when I lay down, but much better.
There, I think that’s everything. Hubby started out one second fine, next he was clutching his chest in horrible crushing pain every time he would cough even a little. He was like that for days. He still has a terrible cough. I want us both tested for antibodies.

I read somewhere that this C-virus caused the distal alveoli to collapse. So it seemed to me that the CPap might help to keep those alveoli open by the pressure.

Huh - I forgot about the blood type! My husband has O. He didn’t get as bad as I did, except the pain in his chest.

A member of my church was one of the first diagnosed cases in NY almost 3 weeks ago. It was his diagnosis that caused us to cancel services. He was never hospitalized to my knowledge, has been quarantining at home and doing well.

Oops. My post #69 was meant for you.

Interesting that you have CPap. My neighbor insisted on using it - had it brought in from home. The ICU let him use it.

WOW. You are tough.

Your symptoms sound like you may have had it. Watch out. If you start to get worse, please see your doctor ASAP or go directly to Emergency Dept.

Did you get the red eyes or the eye pain?

One person described it like being sprayed with mace and then punched in the eye...while others have had it less severe than that..but still bad.

Last year I had something like that. It was going around and several people warned me that if I got sick with it, I’d be down for the count for several weeks. They were not kidding.

It was a 3 week bout of something that landed me flat on my back. I completely lost my appetite, exhausted, very short of breath, and even water tasted AWFUL.

I had never experienced anything like that before.

I seriously thought I had walking pneumonia but since I had no signs of a bacterial infection and had my pneumonia vaccines, I decided to forego the dr visit, in a large part because it was so stinking cold out and I had NO energy to even go out and to to the dr, who is literally, just around the corner.

If COVID was going around at the time, I would have sworn that’s what I had.

It took me months to get my strength back from that one.

So there are things that can give similar symptoms.

“Nothing like anything I have ever had before.”
Exactly what both I and my husband kept saying about what we had. This thing is very WEIRD. It doesn’t behave like a cold or a flu.
