Any FReepers with COVID-19?

Thought it might be good to have a repository of experiences.

Yeah, that sounds like you had it alright. Sounds like you had it pretty bad, actually! Glad you’re getting better now!

Thank you. I am starting to feel well enough to experience cabin fever. That must be a good sign.

I am worried about my husbands cough though. It seems like it should be better than it is. They haven’t tested him though - he tried, but they told him he probably had a sinus infection.

???

A college friend is recovering from pneumonia which might be CV. She traveled to the Pittsburgh area to visit family and flew back to Boston. She lives in a suburb. A few days after getting home she developed some kind of bug that she had trouble shaking. She ended up in the hospital overnight being treated for pneumonia. She was sent home to recover and said she was breathing better but coughing a lot. She had a CV test which came up negative. She said she’d lost her sense of taste, which makes me suspect a false negative. She is about 62 with no health issues as far as I know.

“I’ve two out of those three....and work in a Hosp.”

Hopefully if they are headaches and backaches that is typical for an overworked hospital worker.

And maybe the funny tasting food is too if you eat in the cafeteria!

Hang in there - stay safe. Thank you.

“Type a blood type more likely to get corona virus.”

Not more like to “get” it. Type A likely to experience more severe symptoms.

Did you get the red eyes or the eye pain?

Make of this what you will...I will describe what happened...keep in mind we knew nothing of this at the time. This is long, but you might find it interesting...read to the end if you have time...it gets interesting:)

On December 20th, I attended my niece's Convocation at a major university. For those who don't know, a Convocation is a smaller function for just the students from a particular subset of majors (in this case anyway).

There were about 300 students. It was held in venue with theater style seating. Seated directly behind us was a large contingent of Asians. One of them (a male - 50 ish) was coughing a LOT...he was behind and to the right of me. My sister was to the right of me...and as I turned my head to talk to her...there he was hacking away. I thought to myself "fantastic...I'm going to get some type of Chinese bird flu"..and then SCOLDED MYSELF for "wrong think"...lol. I am a major germaphobe..so it is not unusual for me to notice these things.

Less than 24 hours later, I was sitting in my living room when I was stricken with very sudden extreme eye pain. Over the course of the next few hours, my eye became horribly red & swollen, along with shooting pain in my head & EXTREME photobia.

I went to the urgent care clinic. The Doc used a slit lamp, told me that my cornea looked OK (not scratched) & it appeared to be an oddly severe case of conjuntivitis. Prescribed some drops (expensive!). The photophobia improved slightly, but not the weird one-sided headache; my eye continued to look hideous. On the 23rd, I went to the Optometrist. He was surprised that the urgent care Doc had given me what he had, as it is the most cutting-edge med. He said that my cornea looked awful & that I should expect long-term damage.

SO THEN...about 6 days after the eye thing started (and about the time it started to look a little better), I was hit...again suddenly...with respiratory symptoms. And the epic 3-week battle began. Sneezing, fever, horrendous chills, cough, fatique, joint pain, stomach issues...then better...then it came back...then it went away...then it came back.

Told my family I had the intermintent "flu/cold".

It culminated when I decided I felt well enough after two days of feeling OK to go to the gym for the first time in two weeks. As an aside, CrossFit person here...so that's just what we do...lol. Big mistake...cardio day...I left there, and within 30 minutes chills/fever/shakiness. I had to go to my office the next day...that day is a blur. I woke up and felt like I could not breathe; took a massive dose of Vitamin C (thought to myself...OMG this is going to my lungs). I didn't have a fever, so I decided to go & do what I had to do & then head back home (I can work from home).

Made it to work, and then...spent the next six hours trying desparately to stay awake. Pretty sure I was drifting in and out of consciousness as I would suddenly "wake up" with my head completely having fallen forwards or backwards.

Made the 15 mile drive home, stopping 3 times to walk around because I couldn't stay awake.

Crawled into the house & passed out on the sofa. My neice lives in my lower level; she says I was sprawled out & didn't move an inch (she kept checking on me) for about 6-8 hours. The next day, I started coughing out "rubber cement"..sticky, sticky, nasty crap.

That was the end of the relapses, but it took another couple of weeks to feel normal.

Keeping in mind, we had NO IDEA of the Chinese virus at the time this started:

As things progressed, one of the first Docs to die in China was an Opthamologist. Later, the US warned those in that profession that the WuFlu may present with conjuntivitis...that got me thinking. BTW, my cornea is damaged & this has affected my vision. Will need to get this addressed later.

Pretty sure that I was really "passing out"..so was probably not getting enough oxygen. This is a note for people who live alone...I should have called an ambulance at that point, but was not coherent enough to do so.

And finally, about a month ago, it occured to me to look at the program for my neice's Convocation.

They list the students' home towns. There were about a dozen Chinese students...some from Wuhan.

Vit C, Oregano oil is what I took. No idea if I had it; but at the time..I was actually thinking that my immune system was in some kind of epic battle...was "winning" one day..and not the next. Take care of yourselves:)

Oh, and thanks to the Freepers who started posting about this way long ago. 50/50 that I've already had it...but in any event, I have enough food/supplies for 2 months..except for toilet paper...lol.

I got a call this morning saying I tested positive. I am a nurse. I was swabbed on the 23rd. I had a fever but only up to 100.0, aches, slight headache, slight sore throat, cough, fatigue, shortness of breath, chills, ear ache, nausea, diarrhea. My fever lasted 2 1/2 days. I still have a cough that is annoying and shortness of breath that can get a little more than annoying. I have taken no medication. My son and husband are also sick. They are considered presumed positive. My son is also immunosuppressed. Thus far, he has been the least sick of all of us. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

Since my body temp runs about a degree low (which probably explains why I love FL so much), 98.6 for me would be a fever.

Question about meds.

When I get colds I tend to get bronchitis.

Since I have a mast cell disorder and am sensitive to a lot of foods and meds, what I found helps is using my nebulizer regularly if I feel the chest tightness. It sure seems to prevent it from going into bronchitis for me.

Is that contraindicated for COVID19?

I have not heard anything about the use of nebulizers in regard to the virus.

I'm male, 58, with no preexisting conditions (quit smoking 2.2 years ago)... Live in Suffolk County Long Island.

First showed symptoms on 3/19-20... Started with extreme fatigue and throat congestion, slept for almost 2-3 days... than a severe headache (behind the eyes) commenced on 3/24 (for 2-3 days) and a spiked 101F fever on 3/25.

Was tested on 3/26; diagnosed on 3/28.

I have not experienced the throat issues as others have reported. Lungs appear to be clear as well (that is my one concern above all things).

Treatment:

> Lot's of prayers/worship
> Gargle with salt water once a day
> High potency vitamin daily
> Large amounts of room temp or higher liquids
> Rest

Wife appears to be showing the symptoms... she is about 3-4 days behind me... will be tested today I hope.
