Trying to recall his character in the movie. I do remember a “Roger” , but not the face.
Sir Richard Attenborough. Also played the rich guy in Jurassic Park.
Not killed in war. He was -murdered- in cold blood by the Nazis.
Ah, so. Donald Pleasance I knew from the film.
Always thought the guy in Jurassic Park was Rod Steiger. Not much of a Hollyweird follower, obviously.
The character was “Big X”, Roger Bartlett. The character name was changed from Roger Bushell.

I have a weird quirk. I can whistle the tune from almost every show I’ve seen. Occasionally I whistle tunes whose origin I can’t remember. Heaven help me, I can sing big chunks of a song that I haven’t heard since 1956 or so. (The Walloping Window Blind)
