ew York City’s health commissioner, ostensibly responsible for advising New Yorkers on best health practices, is coming under fire for the role she may have played in the city becoming America’s biggest Coronavirus cluster.
Last month, Oxiris Barbot, the city’s health commissioner, said that riding public transit and going out into public, — including attending the Chinese Lunar New Year parade in Chinatown, would help defeat anti-Asian prejudices.
“The risk to New Yorkers for Coronavirus is low, and our preparedness as a city is very high,” Barbot said February 2nd. “There is no reason not to take the subway, not to take the bus, not to go out to your favorite restaurant, and certainly not to miss the parade next Sunday.”
