March 25* is the feast date (per the Roman tradition) of the penitent thief crucified alongside Jesus Christ. The Crucifixion — Christ flanked by the “bad thief” who taunts Him and the “good thief” who capes for the Messiah — is deeply planted in the western canon. All four of the Gospels refer to two thieves although it is not until Luke — chronologically the latest, and hence the most embroidered and least reliable, of the synoptic gospels — that these nameless extras are surfaced as contrasting archetypes of the damned and the saved.

Agreed - strongly! Many scholars hold Luke to be the closest to an accurate reporter of the Gospels and the Book of Acts. Shrug of shoulders on this crack.
Luke is the “least reliable”?! What GARBAGE! Luke personally spoke with the mother of Jesus. Luke gives historical details the other Gospels leave out. IF we lost all the Gospels except one, I’d want Luke to be the one remaining. “Least reliable,” HOGWASH!
That's why I put the word "stole" in quotation marks; it's not meant to be understood literally.
Were the man's conversion insincere, he never would have received the incredible promise that he did.
