The number of Chinese people in Italy has grown rapidly in the last decade. Official statistics indicate there are at least 320,794 Chinese citizens in Italy.

With an estimated 300,000 Chinese nationals, Italy hosts the largest diaspora community in the European Union.

Via Aljazeera — Today, thousands work in small companies across Padua and other areas.

The coronavirus was detected near Padua back on February 21.

Around 50,000 Chinese are employed in Prato alone, Italy’s textile capital near Florence.

The Italian government suspended flights to and from China on January 31 after two Chinese tourists tested positive.

The coronavirus numbers grew from 150 in mid-February to 1,128 cases by February 29th.

Since then the number of cases have exploded.

Today Italy has recorded 24,747 cases of coronavirus and 1,809 deaths.

Italy today is ground zero for the deadly virus.

“What the heck is “Chinese diaspora”?”

Interesting you never heard that term.

It refers to Chinese people living outside of China.

Did Marco Polo visit there?

“Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province, and one of China’s most progressive cities.
Built as a celebration of the city’s coming of age, the five-star Marco Polo Wuhan is located on the riverfront overlooking the magnificent Yangtze River.”

If a Chinese couple have a baby born in Italy, is the automatically given Italian citizenship?

Does Italy allow anchor babies? I suspect we are the only suckers on earth that allow this practice.

Understand why this is. Italian leather MUST be made in Italy - so they brought in Chinese leather workers

Diaspora:

the dispersion of any people from their original homeland.

“So why isn’t it destroying the china towns in the US?”

Trump closed travel from China except U.S. residents returning who were extensively screened and all self-quarantined if there were no symptoms.

Thus was done almost immediately when the epidemic became known.

This is why we had almost no cases for a month or so.

The Seattle spike has to have been due to skirting the ban and screenings, in my opinion likely via Vancouver with its huge Chinese population.

Fashion industry uses Chinese labor in Milan. I heard from a great source that the industry refused to cancel fashion week. Took the problem lightly. Also to have your product say “Made in Italy “ only 15% of the has to be made in Italy. The Silk Road is virus laced.

It makes a good deal of difference.

Please don’t be a denier like liberals who insist any noticing of racial or religion connectionis just racist and nah nah nah we can’t hear you!

It’s really a no-brainer that Chinese nationals and immediate immigrants would carry a lot of this, as they keep visiting their homelands too!

It’s also a no-brainer that Moslems are much more likely to blow things up than anyone else.

PC libs don’t like that and are more worried about hurt feelings of foreigners than saving lives of Americans.

I’ve worried about this “diversity” we have for years for exactly this reason...travel is so easy today that these foreigners who demand to be citizens here while also insisting Ipoh their culture continue to travel back and forth to their hellholes all the time. I know, I work with several of them. Never mind my husband and our son going to a “diverse” school.

I didn't. I asked what difference it made. You didn't answer that. That it's easy to travel? That's no answer.

Yes, Chinese people visited home for the holidays (Chinese New Year) and returned to Italy infected.

It also explains why sections of the US with large numbers of Chinese born were the epicenters of outbreaks.

Yes I did. It started with Chinese and even in Italy looks like it is mostly propagated by Chinese visitors and workers.

Clearly there is a Chinese connection. Ipso facto it is prudent to discriminate against anything Chinese. And Chinese are trying to put it on Italy and make us call it the Italian flu. Fine, for being the next biggest problem spot. Except the vector still is looking basically Chinese.

I think it is displaced Chinese living in another country.

For years now, Italy has been bragging about how they are the #1 tourist destination for Chinese-just Google that

Some think that the virus was manmade and then weaponized and even further targeted the Chinese.

"Yes I did. It started with Chinese and even in Italy looks like it is mostly propagated by Chinese visitors and workers."

Even if it did, which is speculation not fact, it had to start somewhere. It could have started in France, then mostly French people would have it at the beginning. But at this point it is everywhere and the extent of the spread is just a function of time. There's nothing special about the fact it appeared first in China and was therefore spread first among Chinese people.

Nom it’s a known item. Where knew that it was brought by chinese workers returning after new year’s festivities. But the deaths are older, mostly “white” folks. The emphasis on AGE, not race.

If you are over 60 and have a weak immune system, you are at higher risk, no matter what “race”.

We can assign the blame later. China needs to change, but first let’s fight this virus
