Here’s something I’d be happy to see Fedzilla get involved in: making it easier for small biz to get affordable business interruption insurance that would cover communicable disease outbreaks.
My son is a Jr. Pastor and is opening a meeting with prayer this aft. It’s between all church reps and members of the Chamber of Commerce. Will be interesting what is discussed and coordinated at our local level.
I think delivery-by-robot might be a good business to be in right now. There are still people who either don’t know how to cook, or don’t have the means available to do so. I know there’s a company in Madison, Wi that has delivery robots serving certain areas. I would guess that if the cargo chamber were equipped with UV disinfecting lights, that would be a marketable feature.
And with so many people stuck at home, the robots wouldn’t even need AI. They could be piloted by remote, but people sitting in the comfort of their living rooms.
If there’s a restaurant that has the cooking done by robots, then the whole process could theoretically be done without the meal ever being touched by human hands. With the fear over this virus, a lot of customers would find that appealing.
That’s all hypothetical, of course.
Personally, my business involves so little human interaction that I don’t expect it to be effected much. I’m a farmer/plant breeder/seed producer. Some of my neighbors have started asking me for gardening advice, and a few have mentioned that they’re thinking of raising chickens after seeing how much fun mine are. So maybe the biggest change is that people aren’t looking down their noses at me as much as they usually do.
I'm in a podunk town in East Central Missouri. I drive medical transport; the majority of my riders haven't even brought up the situation. Of course they are mostly pre-occupied with true sickness (cancer, arthritis etc.)It's not just them though. Other individuals that I've spoken with individually don't even mention it or they mention it only in passing.
However, all that changes when you turn on the local county radio station and our 'elected' officials are on there buying into the hysteria and releasing 'solemn' sounding news bites (this is a wet dream for the politicians so they can pontificate and bloviate and sound official. Even at the local level....it's disgusting to me.)
Anyway, the hysteria is the problem and it's contagious as hell. Thursday night I did my shopping early...not because of the hype, that was the furthest thing from my mind, but because I thought it would be nice not to have to do it this weekend. One of the stores, Aldi, was jam packed and I'm thinking, 'wth? did everyone get their SS checks or what'. Toilet Paper all gone, bread all gone. People running around 'piling' their carts up to overflowing and I get up to the cashier and ask her, 'what is going on'? She told me "it's been like this ALL WEEK". And it's because of the stupid corona virus hype.
On Friday, I go to the liquor store to buy a bottle of wine and one of the cashiers, whom I've known for years, came to the window and told me she just got back from Aldi and they were closing early and would not be opening until Sunday (today) because they were cleaned out of most product. In addition, she told me 2 factories in the area closed down until further notice because they can't get supplies to keep their lines going. Both of these plants employ many local people and now they are out of a job. btw, another one of the stores I use is Dollar General and they were getting cleaned out as well and they were completely out of, you guessed it, toilet paper (wtf?) This podunk town is going to be hurting which was the true goal in order to end up hurting President Trump.
The danger is that this thing has been weaponized and you have the fools buying into the hype which forces the more level headed people to participate because the fools are running around stripping stores of everything. The dems now know another tactic to use in the future; how to manipulate the masses/sheeple to devastate local economies and the country in general.
Anyway, I apologize for the lengthy post but thought you might like to hear about what's going on elsewhere too. This is going to devastate our town if this thing drags on because of its domino effect.
I do not recognize these cowards who call themselves American.
I sell used cars.. First week of tax refunds was great..
Then they turned the switch off.
normally I get 3-4 weeks worth of strong sales.
DeWine, gov of Ohio just closed all bars and restaraunts.
omg
Perhaps self-employment tax payment could be made optional for tax years 2019 and 2020.
The revenue lost could be partially balanced out by lower future Social Security payouts to those not paying in full.
As a landlord with four rental properties I worry about my renters losing their jobs or curtailed hours of work and still be able to pay rent.
Now is the time to panic.
I thought I read somewhere that the April 15th deadline was going to be extended. Or that it was being considered.
DeWine is an idiot.
DeWine is an idiot.
I heard that, too.
But I repeat myself.
Comrade DeWine.
I work for a nonprofit in a health industry that I won’t name because it will come up in a Google search. We rely on donations of a certain type. People are canceling those en masse due to fear and hysteria. We are looking at a very real healthcare crisis in the near future if the donations continue to dry up. Patients who rely on our product are priority one; priority two is keeping our business afloat... at what point will layoffs begin because we have been hit so hard?
Ask me in four weeks. Too early to tell at this time.
I went to Menard’s in Rolla today and there weren’t many people there but the cleaning product aisle was fully stocked, even big jugs of Lysol. Small towns in between here and there and around me are like they’ve always been. My wife said the walmart up in Sullivan was a madhouse Fri night. It’s on the interstate though.
I was supposed to start self employment this Spring building old trucks, restomod. Stick them on a newer frame with newer fuel injected engine. They’ve been selling like hotcakes for the past few years. Now I’m wondering who will have money to buy one in the early summer. Gotta sell the first one to fund the second. After I’ve done 3-4, I’ll be able to have one for sale while starting the next.
Wife works at a nursing home so her job is safe as long as this virus doesn’t hit and kill everyone. She has COPD so she’d be high risk and wouldn’t be able to work if the bug was there. I might put off truck #1 until this blows over. I can do quite a bit without spending much but if her work gets affected, we’ll need funds to live on. fukinchina
