Yup. In all honesty it’s better for old sick and weak people to die from something they would have died of the next flu anyway but instead we are wrecking thr entire economy and destroying the lives of millions and no one seems to care they just want to hide and wipe their asses.
I don't think we'll know the true extent of damage until the dust clears. Don't get me wrong, I think we'll recover ok but how long will that take?
It's the pack mentality that is dangerous. I just couldn't believe it...so stupid and ridiculous.
AMazon, DoorDash, GrubHub, Caviar, Seamless, etc., all offer delivery of restaurant foods.
Not meaning to pry....is what your non-profit provides able to be picked up/provided by a private company, or other means, even gov’t?
Small Biz loans will be rolled out, soon, I believe.
I know that doesn’t take care of the immediate problem, but, I pray it will help folks in situations like yours.
And, saying prayers, for you/all FReeper small biz owners, as well.
One of my home businesses is ranch fresh eggs and I’m selling out every day! No complaints here!
I essentially juggle two gigs, freelance tech writing and part-time tech support for a major client.
The writing work is constant, but publication schedules remain steady. And there are jokes that freelance writers are the best situated for the economic apocalypse. I’ve had to turn down work because kids home from school hurts my productivity.
The electronics firm I support remotely has seen sales drop off. They’re still selling. Being 95% ecommerce, the quarantine doesn’t affect them. And we have plenty of inventory in stock, so supply chain disruptions are not an issue. I did discuss issues with the manager, and he’s ordering more expensive key components from Chicago and New York rather than the planned order from a China PCB house. They just can’t risk not having parts in 6 months because of the traffic jam of cargo container ships OR slow rebuilding of supply chains in China.
Yet sales have dropped off by at least a third if not half, both commercial sales and small hobbyists. It is less clear how the massive spike in online purchases of essentials is going to hurt them. I was helping drop stuff off directly at the post office this week, because deliveries are slowing down. All those people ordering groceries on Amazon is choking delivery, so taking it to the post office and getting stuff scanned could shave a day off delivery times.
It is already happening to bars.
Kind of a mixed blessing right now...every school is closed starting Monday and the weather is nice so they're getting tons of calls plus no lack of workers...they hire a lot of college kids.
The franchise hq is all over the congressional reps for small business relief when it becomes available. I've urged my daughter to stay on top of this.
And they generally have razor thin margins.
One of the modestly sized regional conventions wasn’t canceled. The boss drove there with a truck full of inventory. He drove six hours on Friday night to be set up on Saturday to sell, because he needs the revenue. He was certain there would be great sales, because while half the people on social media were thinking of not coming, 2/3 of the sponsors had already cancelled. That would make him one of the only sellers, period.
And he’s reluctant to risk the sales opportunity, given that online sales are down.
Only thing that hasn’t changed is consulting and design requests, because people can do that from home or are planning six months in advance.
During this weekend, I have been dealing with clients cancelling delivery of product. Sales appointments are getting cancelled. Employees are emailing me that they are afraid to come to work tomorrow (due to the media frenzy).
We are only 40% of quota for this month so far and due to cancelled deliveries and sales appointments, even that number might slip further.
If even a large business is feeling this kind of impact, I can only imagine what it must be like for the small business owner.
It is freaking bloody out there. Yeah, I got friends that got reamed with the Stock show closing. Ostrich closed...who care about Blythe...Usually we would be in Henderson this weekend, but by chance we never got there because the Golden Knights HOckey team....long story...
Already got our refund and that is what is keeping us alive for the next three momths....
Seriously, hair salons are allowed to be opened and part of the group considered necessary?
No, they aren’t. Things were moving quickly when they made up that list. Hairdressers have been removed.
But he did not cancel his large fund raiser on 13 Mar 2020!!
Only if people are willing to donate. I guess the government could order people to, but don’t really see that happening.
Hmmmm...so, this product/service, that your non-profit provides, isn’t made, or available through private business (as in, to purchase)?
