So many FRiends had expressed concern about me going on a crowded cruise ship due to Corona Virus Disease (covid), I am posting a post-cruise report here.
We have a Jr. Suite... so, yes.. we’ll be outside getting fresh air often. And, we’ll be getting a LOT of Vitamin D!
About 6 years ago I took my last cruise in the Caribbean that involved flying from Boston to San Juan, and a hotel stay before the cruise trip.
My wife has Alzheimer's and I decided to keep it simple , just the cruise ship, no flying or hotel stays.
So I have done 3 cruises on the "Norwegian Dawn", and the last 2 years on the "Serenade of the Seas" out of Boston to beautiful Bermuda in October, the last 5 years.
Might go on the "Norwegian Gem" this October, depending on my health and my wife's condition. -Tom
That describes me to a "tee." Give me the mountains and lakes with lots of hiking to get the old ticker really pumping.
entropy, I wish your partner the best and will pray for their health!! The treatments are worse than the damn disease theyve come a long way with cancer my best wishes to the both of you!!!

Plus - it’s a lot easier to get away from people when you want to.
That is a HUGE plus for me. Running into a couple of people on a good hike is FAR better than being crammed in with a couple thousand...no matter how big the ship.
Missus POF would love to go on a cruise. I’ve always said “Over my dead body.”
I think she’s waiting for that day.
Business class trips to Italy outta be for a song and a dance right now! :-)
Oh, yeah, I enjoy meeting people and spending the time chewing the fat with them. Not so much as part of a group thing as you’d have on a cruise or tour group, more like you stroll into some town, stop by this and that establishment and shoot the breeze with the locals.
Or, as you say, just run into others as you’re trekking.
Now its getting serious. My son and 3 grandkids play hockey. The 12 yr old breaks hockey sticks regularly. At $200-$300 each, hes going to have to be really careful. All the kids will.

If you like chatting with friendly strangers, visit North Idaho. Everybody has time to talk with you. Even the teenagers at the checkout counters at the stores. They ALL ask “How’s your day going? Got anything planned for the weekend?” It’s the most amazing thing, especially compared to the San Fran Bay Area where almost nobody gives a crap about you.
They have a special free WiFi drinks and gratitudes paid. Not a great deal. I was hoping for a much better deal. They should be lowering prices but Im not seeing any for where were going.
As far back as I can remember, there has never been a shortage of "Merry Widows" on cruise ships.-Tom
I always get kick out of the cruises we have been on. Once the ship is in international waters the seniors practically run you over heading to the slot machines.
Airline Travel, be sure that the A/C on the Aircraft got a long shot of air bled into the Cabin at 35,000 ft Temperature should freeze dry that Damned virus !!!
hahahaha yes! hockey sticks, golf clubs, tennis balls...all will experience shortages FOR A WHILE until either China gets covid-19 under control or other countries take over the business.
When we lived in SoCal and near San Pedro, we were on the last-minute list for Princess. If you could could pick up and go in a couple of days sometimes the cost would be as little as $100/day.
They don’t make much money on us, though, as we don’t gamble or drink.
Which is exactly the reason I pushed for relocating to Florida. We are 40 minutes from JAX cruise terminal, 90 minutes from Port Canaveral and Tampa is a couple of hours.
If we find a real bargain cruise, Miami/Fort Lauderdale are 6 hours away.
Yes the base prices on cruises are great value.
I will say on Princess and Royal Caribbean, the food is not as good as it was 10 yrs ago, partially because a lot of the slots are taken by vegan and gluten-free.
I would too LOL if they banned smoking in casino’s.
Good for you! Thanks also for the report and your observations.
