So many FRiends had expressed concern about me going on a crowded cruise ship due to Corona Virus Disease (covid), I am posting a post-cruise report here.
I see a critical shortage of flip flops in the future as well.
This is a great time to vacation in Italy. Lake Como! On our Mediterranean cruise in 2008, we stopped in Rome and Pisa. The leaning tower is impressive all built with white marble stone. The ship stops in Civitavecchia which is about an hour train ride from Rome, which was lot cheaper than tour through cruise ship.
Read the fine print of your Cruise Insurance. Want to bet that things like Coronavirus aren't covered?
Oh yes good ole San Pedro! We made several driving trips from Camas, WA to that place to catch cruises. It was a 2-day journey each way! But I was young and with the 2 kids it was probably cheaper than flying. We had relatives in SF to crash for the night. Both kids have done 18 cruises with us, and we did a bunch before the kids. Such cheap vacations on cruises for 2 kids in our one stateroom! We deprived them of the expensive Disney experience.

This recent 5 day cruise was $544 cruise & taxes +$124 tips=$668 for 2 people which works out to $66.80/per day per person. We usually get a ride to the terminal which is 40 minutes, from friends. And like you we don’t gamble and drink just a very few glasses of wine, so I am surprised the cruise company has not black listed us.

Yes. The high-maintenance vegan and gluten-free people have made an impact.
And the Princess food (don’t know about RCL) is about the same as Carnival’s was 30 years ago; it’s only average now. They’ve added too many up-sell restaurants. It seems the food in traditional dining is marginal in order to manipulate you to the pay venues. We refuse.
When we cruised in the ‘80s on Sitmar (later bought by Princess), traditional dining was the only thing, and the food was elegant and beyond outstanding.

Perhaps entropy12 will know, but I probably should have included the post to which I responded, dealing with cancelling the cruise, presumably beforehand:
“The difficult thing is that some of these Fantasy vacations were bought and paid for months ago. I am understanding that people pay as much as 10,000 dollars. And if those people cancel then they lose every cent. There are no refunds.”
My first cruise was during Tienanmen Sqaure on Disney's "Big Red Boat" and it was nothing short of stellar elegance.
In 2012 my now ex wife and I went on a Princess Cruise up Alaska's inner passage. We both commented on how cruising had changed (and not for the better.) Last May my GF and I went on NCL to Honduras, Belize and Mexico. I'd call NCL more upscale than the rest however it's still very much an all you can eat buffet on a floating hotel. We received free upgrades to the "premiere" restaurants on the ship and I'd have to rate those five stars but still, having to "upgrade" on an already upscale cruise line? Glad we got them for free.
BTW we're taking NCL to Alaska's inner passage up to Whittering in June. I can't wait, at least this time I'm going with someone who wants to be with me, LOL! (As for my ex, I hope she continues to live a miserable life... Just sayin'.)

LOL when one reaches my age, it is time to stop worrying and live with abandon. Every day I get out of bed with no pain or fever, it is a bonus day LOL.
I posted this thread with the primary intention to show that covid-19 fears are exaggerated and we must continue living normal lives without crawling into a shell. If a 80 year old can enjoy a cruise and not get sick, why so many are so scared?
Keep in mind, at the ground zero of covid-19, Hubei province in China, ONLY 1 in 1000 people have confirmed infections.
Seems that s older folks are NOT panicking because WE have lived with the LYING media a whole lot longer than most!! The MSM has this whipped up into such a frenzy it is pathetic!!! The people on this site are some of the smartest on the planet and I have to admit I am very disappointed so many of them are falling for this rubbish!!
I couldn’t have said it any better. If you read many of my posts, you will find out I am a stark realist, value proportionality, and evaluate odds in every situation.
At ground zero of covid-19, which is Hubei province in China, only 1 in 1000 have confirmed infections. But many in US are in panic? My chances of getting killed in a car accident are huge compared to getting sick with covid-19. So I should stop driving first LOL..
That’s pretty good. Cruises can be a real bargain. Just two months before 9/11 we took a Carnival Cruise out of New York to St. John and Halifax. I think the total cost was $500 for two with an inside cabin. I had fun going up to the highest deck as we were leaving the Hudson to watch the stack clear the Verrazano Bridge by a mere foot or two. That first night out, I spent some time in the sauna which had a huge picture window on one side. I sat in there drinking ice water from a tap, looking through the window as the sun set over the North Atlantic, while listening to Pavarotti sing Nessun Dorma over the sound system, and thought “This isn’t bad for the price”.

YAP, and when one is lying on their death bed, will one regret more having enjoyed too many things, or will regret more having lived a life of caution and frugality and crawling into a shell to avoid the slim chance of catching a virus and leaving a barrel full of money behind? Believe me that day will come with metaphysical certainty in your life.
