The Trump administration stunned Democrat lawmakers and immigration advocacy groups Wednesday, announcing it will waive federal contracting laws to greatly speed up construction of a wall at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The Department of Homeland Security said waiving procurement regulations will allow 377 miles of new wall to be built far more quickly in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. The 10 waived laws include requirements for having open competition, justifying selections and receiving all bonding from a contractor before any work can begin.
By one estimate, the time to complete this huge section of wall could be cut by 80% due to this unprecedented maneuver.
The acting Homeland Security secretary, Chad Wolf, is exercising authority under a 2005 law -- then passed with bipartisan support -- that gives him sweeping powers to waive laws for building border barriers.
Since that time, of course, Democrats have changed their tune on a border wall. But it's too late -- the law is in place, and Trump is taking full advantage of it!

Thank you RL!!!!!! Nice, nice nice....
Question:
Does anyone know how far the border wall is set back from the Mexico border? IOW, it’s on our side, not right up at the edge, correct?
This apparently was done the right way. I sat next to a guy on a plane at least two years ago who was part of a team getting a RFP in place for this wall, and I hope he got it.
I like to think, as outlined in the excellent book “Freedom’s Forge”, that harnessing the power of capitalism and profit to get something done works as well on this as it does on being the armorer of the Free World in WWII.
Granted, Roosevelt had to have his arm twisted to allow people to make money doing it, but he eventually saw the light and let the market do its work.
Once a basic wall is up ..then can’t we come back and reinforce it even more.
The hardest part i would imagine was getting the right of way?
and that is no longer a issue.
Heya NFHale, hope all is well.
I heard that at some places (perhaps Laredo?) they have it tens of yards inside the US Border. They probably have reasons, erosion by the Rio Grande, or things like that.
I frequently thank God for the stupidity of democrats. Trump has in the past been sympathetic to many democrat goals, and he's by nature a deal maker. If the thugs had tried to negotiate with him and compromise, they could have gotten a lot in return. Instead, all they have to show for the past four years is a case of souvenir impeachment pens. We got a large chunk of the judiciary, serious progress on the Wall, and serious Mexican help in protecting our border. That's a big win for decent Americans.
It's obvious. He just colluded with 125,000 Indians. He must be impeached again. And again. And again. /s
My brother and I watched this video last week, I love large scale construction projects that are well executed, and this one appears to be from what I see.
Again, I don’t fully agree with the guy who shot the footage, but I like that he is enthusiastic about the wall and getting it built!
We can discuss the finer details once we have stopped the flooding from the South!
Hello, brother... :^)
I figured they’d set it back some distance from the actual borderline... that way Mexico can’t claim it’s encroaching on their land... sort of like setting your backyard fence two feet back from the property line.
Thank you for sending those pics... good to see it.
I totally forgot about Kushner...thanks for pointing that out. This has probably been gestating in the hopper a long time. As kiryandil posted in #27, In politics, timing is EVERYTHING. This takes advantage of existing law passed by Dems, protects against illegal invaders, keeps out COVID, and, if progress is fast, is perfectly timed for the Fall 2020 election.
lining up the funding.
Pack the Defense Dept with extra billions, then after protests through the courts finally being won by The Donald, ya move a few billions from de Fence to Wall Building.
IMO, we may never fully stop the inflow, but...having a faucet reduced to a trickle is a lot better than a broken water main being ignored.
Think of the money this country will save. I would like to think that factored a great deal into getting it built. I have read estimates of $45 billion (Leftist estimates) up to $250 billion wasted each year on the effects of allowing unlimited invasion in a welfare state and the associate crime and costs...if the fence costs $50 billion to make (that was the last estimate I remember seeing) it will be WELL worth the expenditure.
Snort...woke up curmudgeonly today? Get more coffee and go see if the sun is shining.
And because the dims went so far extreme, they’re on the verge of nominating either an open communist lunatic or a fascist billionaire.
We aren’t out of this yet, not by a longshot.
But it’s good to know that we have a man who loves his Country and who will help us fight to maintain this Country as a free, capitalist society.
We may have to shoot it out yet, but at least we’ll have help.
That’s a great video. Thanks.
Amazing project and so well executed.
“..We can discuss the finer details once we have stopped the flooding from the South!...”
True that...
Stop the bleeding, treat the wound, then go back and kick the enemy’s ass.
“We know how to talk, pontificate, and bloviate. Actually do anything significant? Nah...”
