Outbreaks confirmed in new countries as Iran’s deputy health minister says he has tested positive for coronavirus.
About 50 pupils and staff at a school in County Antrim have been sent home as a precaution against coronavirus after they went on a ski trip to northern Italy.
The Cambridge House grammar school group are showing no symptoms and did not visit any of the affected towns – but they were in the Lombardy region and were sent home as a “precautionary” measure, the principal, Elma Lutton, said.
Two schools in Cheshire have also taken precautionary steps after half-term ski trips to Italy, with Cransley school in Northwich completely closing and Brine Leas academy in Nantwich closing its sixth form due to staff shortages as a result of teachers self-isolating.
If you don’t have enough food to survive a 2-3 month quarantine you are almost out of time to prepare!!!

I’m guessing with steam heat, you’re OK, unless the virus can take steam and steam is leaking out of your radiator(s). If your AC is a window unit, it’s possible that it could draw virus in from the outside, I suppose.
I’ve heard that it can be airborne via aerosols that don’t settle onto a surface.

It isn’t the flu (0.1% mortality). It has a higher mortality rate (3-15%), higher transmissibility rate (R0 estimated to be around 6, where the flu is 1.3), is contagious before the carrier even shows symptoms, and there are no native immunities. Even ignoring the latter three factors, if it were to become endemic (which you seem to be advocating), like the flu, it would kill a million people in the US. Adding in the latter three, it would be hard for anybody to avoid it and it would kill many millions. Just in the US. Which is why we need to contain it.
I advocate for people to prepare and be vigilant. I don’t think this is the end, nor is it a nothing-burger like you *Flu Groupies* claim. Containment is key and at some point, quarantines will be part of the mix. If people get caught without adequate supplies when their community gets quarantined, well, I hope the government will deliver food, but I wouldn’t count on it. You are, on the other hand, whistling past the graveyard. You are part of the problem.

The death rate is more important than the aggregate number. With the flu, it’s around 0.1%. With Corona, it seems to be at least 2%.

I’m hardly a nut. Over all of these threads I am a moderate in between the nothing-burgers and the apocalyptics. All I do is crunch the numbers and advocate for people to prepare.

The best thing the docs can do over here at this time is give people with flu symptoms a chest X-ray to look for the ground-glass appearance of water in the lungs.
I picked up last 2 masks with spare filters at a home depot today. Wife wanted them. OTOH I can always use them later when airbrushing plastic models.
