Peace is better than war.
And, if we want our world to be at peace, we need to support the peace makers and to understand those who are different from us rather than demonise them.
For this reason, the two politicians I most admire in American politics right now are the two peace candidates for president: POTUS and Tulsi Gabbard.
I dont need to educate Free Republic readers about why I love The Donald. You already know the reasons for saying that he is an outstanding president who thoroughly deserves reelection.
But in the case of Gabbard, these are the things I like about her:
A. She is a serving patriot and emphatically opposed to unnecessary war.
B. She did not support the partisan impeachment vote.
C. She reaches out across the aisle.
In the world at large, another peace maker I really admire is my Indonesian friend, the Bugis Elder, Aspar Paturusi.
When he was three years old in 1946, his father was killed by the Dutch colonial power in Indonesias revolutionary war of independence.
Yet his family remained strong and he grew to be a nationally regarded poet. Politically, he recently shifted his allegiance from the more strongly Islamic side of Indonesian politics to the nationalist side of politics of President Jokowi, who takes a stronger stand in opposing fundamentalism.
Now Aspar spends most of his days at home praying ardently to God (see video at: )
Is there an equivalent in modern western culture of this sort of commitment to prayer?
IMHO The West has lost the appetite for public faith and will pay a very heavy price for that in generations to come.
So we need we need to try to restore respect for faith.
How could we do that?
What’s the point of all this?
A. Debate.
B. Recognizing the doves like Gabbard and Potus.
C. Giving Peace a Chance. (How i wish that McCartney had written that and not Lennon.)
